does that mean thats its 4x magnification and 30 cm long? heh
also, do all scopes fit universally to a scope mount?

The first number(s) is the magnification. So yes, a 4X30 is 4 times the magnification of your normal sight. If you see something like 3-9X30, then the zoom is adjustable from 3 times to 9 times your normal sight.
The last number is the diameter of the reticle, the lense on the end. The larger the number the wider the lense, the wider your field of view, the more bad guys you can see. I believe that they are based off of mm, so a 4X30 has 4 times the amount of "zoom" as your normal sight, and a 30mm lense.
You'll probably need to buy scope rings if they are not included, then you'll need to find out what your type mount is. Piccatiny, weaver, bbgun/pistol sized, etc. Once you figure out what size your mount is, then you buy the rings to match. Most airsoft rails are weaver/piccatiny which i believe are 20mm or 21mm wide.

well im thinking about the scope for the mk-1 carbine, which is pistol based (obviously off the mk-1!) would that be a pistol mount type?
also, how much is a good diameter for a scope to have a decent view of the field

Elite Eagle? Got an answer for the Mk1 question? Bong, you might want to look in the review and see if he mentioned it, if he didn't ask there, he's more likely to see it. This is one that i can't answer, i've never physically held the gun. If i were to make a guess, i'd put money on weaver/piccatiny, but i really can't say for sure.
For our purposes, you won't be shooting at targets 600 yards away, so you won't need a narrow objective for clarity and what not, so go with the biggest you can get within your price range. Airsoft is pretty close range, so you want to be able to see as much of the field as possible, so the largest diameter you can get will be the best.

is 4x really necessary? 4x is pretty big...
wow.. big scope price range... you could use real scopes on airsoft guns anyway right?

Yes you can use real scopes on airsoft guns. I have a 4x scope myself. It does get difficult finding people sometimes even when you know where they are because it is zoomed in a little too much. I'd say it depends on what gun you are getting. If you are going to use an MP5 I would say go with something smaller but if you plan on being a sniper and using a gun such as the PSG1 then go with something a bigger. Also take into factor your guns accuracy.
