after searching for "pistols," and "usefull pistols," I didnt find any topics like this.
Im just curious, are pistols usefull? Just from the look of it, it doesnt seem like they would be, in a game with AEG's.
Back in my p-ball days I had a pistol, and let people use it when they didnt have a gun. They were mainly used as bait for the entire time, because it was easier to run with the pistol.
For me, with all of the new-fangled highcaps, and assault vests, It would be pretty hard to run out of ammo, and if I did run out, I dont know if I would feel comfortable setting my aeg somewhere if it runs dry.
Any thoughts? Please Share!

Pistols are not a good substitute to an AEG. The ability to run with a pistol is not enough to make it better suited for combat then an AEG. If you want the best of both worlds then you might want to consider some type of SMG AEG.

you'd think that you wouldn't need a pistol, but it's come in handy for me enough times for it to be worth carrying one. I have a 2400 mAh battery and i like semi auto, so i don't use much battery. Which means that i can get away with not charging my battery for about a month, but it also means that i kill it in my AEG. When it dies, having my side arm ready is a great thing. You still hold your own with a pistol if it's what you're reduced to. You won't exactly be taking out the whole team, but you won't be a fish-in-a-barrel either.

Pistols can be very useful, but only in conjunction with a sling on your rifle (Don't want anything happening to it, do ya?). They're better than nothing and can be great replicas. Some of them can almost shoot as hard (FPS) and fast (ROF) as any AEG. I've got two Glock18c's and with the ext. mags, that's 90 BB's coming out at about 330fps at over 15rps.

The last game I played with FLAG saw me drawing my pistol. I had to "plant the bomb," you see. It was just easier to ditch my AEG for a moment (which I won't have to do anymore thanks to my nice new 3-point harness), draw my pistol, and run forward, using my off hand to "plant the bomb" and my good hand to shoot at anyone silly enough to try to stop me from accomplishing my objective.

Yeah pistols are not totally useless, one of my first games me and my friends where playing in really tall grass, and i was using a friends aeg and it was goofing up, so i slung to my back and pulled out my pistol. I listen to the other gun shots found where the enemy was and flanked around them and i made a guy surrender with my pistol. And even during that same game i was moving towards my own men and i had an enemy who came up behind me, and he started to run straffing and shooting (so his accuracy was poor and this was his first time playing) on semi-auto i quickly turned looked at him rose my gun and shot him between the eyes (literally) And i was only using a springer. So pistols are not entirely useless i got 2 kills that game, and i only shot once.

I expected this thread to be another "shuddap newbie!" thread ;p I'm glad it's not.
Back on topic.
I, personally, dont like to use a pistol.... gets in the way a bit too much, and i've never been in a situation where i've needed it. That may change, however. I'm a very quick, agile player, I run a lot and do a lot of crazy moves sometimes (not john woo type stuffs, mind you)... so a pistol would be jamming the ground/bouncing on my hip/whatever for 99% of my playing time. I may try one down the road a bit (like, when/if I pick up a sniper setup) but right now... I've got better things to spend my cash on.
My bottom line : The way I see it, I'll pick up a pistol after I get all my gear setup the way I want it and/or when I start playing indoor CQB. That's about 6 months away (at least) ;p

I dont even carry a pistol 75% time but they are nice when your gun jams/runs out of juice/ammo etc. Or when you are trying to move fast in a tight space (CQB or something). But its very hard to hit something long range with a pistol. But if you get like a vest with a cross draw holster then it should be much easier to carry without it getting in your way. But whatever is comfortable for you and in your budget i say go for it.

Well I will throw in my 2 cents. I think they are usefull not to mention cheap and fun. One of the things I like is recoil, something an AEG lacks, so thats part of the fun aspect. Aside from that I don't use my glock often though it's in my vest all the time, I guess I'm just used to having it there now, not to mention if I need it, it's there. If you run out of ammo, or gun freaks out(battery dies, anything) It would save your butt. I guess with airsoft you lack hand to hand combat and really knives or anything, so in that light, when you gun doesn't work or your out of ammo your shit out of luck. There is no other recourse other than running away(which most of the time you should do anyways) but you have nothing to fall back on with just an AEG.

I wouldn't be comfortable without a pistol on my hip.
at Firebrand, i had my Para P14 out most of the time while i was seperated from my unit.
the controlability is better than my G3... and would make for a faster snap shot if i got into the shit.
there were several times when i thought i'd heard a noise... i'd put down my G3 and crawl over to check things out with just my pistol out.

In addition to the niceties of having a backup weapon should your AEG go down, I find myself taking my pistol out back and plinking a lot more often than I do my AEG. Like Luke said, the recoil makes just plinking around more interesting...I find I enjoy my pistol more than my AEG on non-playing days.

Most all of us just use normal bb's. I know I wouldn't dare put 6mm paintballs through my AEG, nor my gas pistol. The potential headache resulting from chopping one in the chamber/loading ramp just puts me off. Maybe in a springer, but not in a good gun.

never ever put the shitty 6mm paintballs in an AEG or gas pistol. they break half the time in the magazine or as the weapon is fired... then you need to clean that bastard out.
