Forgive my ignorance, but I am quite unaware when it comes to upgrades of sniper rifles. Through much searching and reading, I have found that I would like to purchase some form of APS2 by Maruzen and of course, upgrade it to near 500 fps. My issue is this: I want to have a superiorly durable rifle. This brings two questions.
Are these something that I can do myself at home? - I do not know how to take apart my AEG, but perhaps will have better luck with the spring gun, afterall, I do quite well with my real firearms.
Secondly, in the opinion of the fine knowledgable people on this board, does this upgrade deal from UNC sound like something that would work for me to shoot near 500 fps with a reliable gun?
Installed ~~Complete cylinder (Cylinder, Cocking handle, Spring, Spring Guide, Piston and Piston Head)
~~Only High Quality Japanese parts will be used
-Power option from 350fps to 500fps (Please state the power option)
I think I may need to get a reinforced/metal cocking handel for the bolt with this. I am sorry but research turns up little on the actual effectiveness of upgrades, only price.
Thank you for your time.

But still, is this something I should be able to do myself with a set of hex wrenches and some carefull and tedious guesswork? Or is there somewhere locally where I should get help with this kind of thing? I would be willing to pay someone on the board here to show me how to do this, as I like to do as much of my own gunsmithing as possible. Being ignorant of the workings of my own gun kills me. Thanks.

Spring rifles are pretty easy to upgrade. You could probably do it yourself. If you run into a problem, post about it.

since it's moderately on-topic...
i got my 300% PDI spring for my L96 today. however, it is too small to fit in the spring guides (i think that's what it's called... maybe piston?)
what size would i need to get?
package says for super9, aps2, m40a1, etc
13mm
was this not made for the L96? i was under the impression that springs that fit the APS2 will fit the L96

I don't believe there are many parts that are interchangeable between the APS2 and Type 96 series. I PM'ed you about this but I'll post here in case anyone else needs this info. They do make differently sized spring guides for the Type 96 so as long as the spring fits into the piston, you may be able to make it work for a little bit more money.
EDIT: Fixed some language.

pm replied, but let it be known:
the PDI 300% aps-2 spring is too wide to fit inside the piston
