My friend has an HFC Mac-10 gas, and he has a few problems with it, the most significant is that the gas leakes out of it and he can't fire off much before he needs more gas. How long should he hold the gas canister to the clip/how should he fix the leaking problem.

1st where does the gas leek out of? If it leeks out of the bottom then there should be a place where you can fit a screw driver where you put the gas on the bottom of the mag... tighten that little thing up and that should do it(im not sure the names but its that little place you put the gas in)
If it leeks out of the top where the gun uses to shoot... He could have broken an O ring... im not sure with the mac's what the set up looks like but i have heard with other gas guns if it leaks out of the top of the mag then some silicon lube should fix that problem.... DO NOT TRY THIS UNTILL SOMONE SUPPORTS IT! THIS IS JUST HEAR SAY!! i dont want you to do somthing wrong cause i heard it would fix your gun so just wait if its leaking out of the top of the mag for somone to support or tell you how to fix that

The reason he can't fire a lot before needing gas is because the mag is leaking (so says Captain Obvious! If you couldn't figure this much out, you need to be slapped). It's most likely leaking from the fill valve (the bottom) because it was incorrectly filled/overfilled. This means it needs a new valve. Find someone who sells the part, replace it, and be more careful when filling the mag in the future.
No, I don't know where to get a new valve. Whomever your friend purchased the gun from (assuming it was a store/website and not an individual) should be able to locate the part he needs.
Oh...how long to fill? Read the gas primer.

well you fill it up till it explodes and turns you into a bloody pile of dead carcass, then its done
actually, assuming that you can fill it right in the first place, minimal gas sprays out of it when filling (2 or 3 second intervals for filling) and when it is full a large amount of the gas sprays out, because it is full, imagine that
