So I've decided that one of my next major purchases is going to be a DMR, however, I'm unsure of which platform to choose. I'm debating between the M16, SR25, and M14. Currently I'm leaning towards the SR-25, but I wanted to hear some opinions. If I got a M16 I would probably get this one: KWA Full Metal M16 Battle Rifle 2GXFor the SR-25: G&G Full Metal GR-25 AEG Airsoft GunAnd I'm unsure of a good brand for the M14. Your personal experiences and knowledge is greatly appreciated, as I am not very well versed in the DMR realm. The main thing i'm looking for is a reliable well built platform that won't completely break the bank. Thanks

Out of the choice's you've listed, I'd personally go with the SR25. If you wanted to look into m14's, I personally would point you in the way of the G&G line or the G&P series. G&G M14 - 270G&P M14 - on sale ~ 240I've shot the G&P before and I was very impressed. If I recall with a high torque motor and a flat hop the gun was hitting just under 240ft. Family down in Ohio has the G&G one and they seem to love it. Of course, both of them have more than 1 variation. The G&G ones that are pricer are wooden and in good shape (up to 400$). They also have their M14 EBR line around 500$ Good luck in your decision!

I own the G&G soc 16, it is a short version of the M14. I kept it stock (350 fps) and it is a great gun, very accurate out of the box and great all around.

I personally would go with the M16, as it uses 5.56mm Stanag magazines rather than the larger 7.62mm magazines. That way, you can share mags with your teammates. The M16 will also be more compatible with upgrade parts.

i got a airsoftgi custom dmr platform on a combat machine lower. Relieable, realativly light, amazing range for a aeg, and pretty cheap too. Look into those.

If you go with the sr25 get something other than G&G. The nozzle sucks and there are no aftermarketones available. I see no reason not to go with one of the extended gearbox versions now that there are good upgrade parts for them available.

I personally would go with an SR25 out of the choices OP listed, but personally am loving my SCAR-H SSR (aka a Mk20)

DMRs don't get special privledges like machinegunners do.

Except for the additional FPS since most DMR's are semi automatic, but I digress. I'm thinking the OP wanted to choose a true DMR platform

Correct me if I'm wrong but don't I don't think any MilSim would count a M16 as a DMR. Why would a MilSim need to "count" it as anything? DMRs don't get special privledges like machinegunners do. Most real DMRs are 7.62, but in airsoft you can really do anything you want. You could make a P90 or an MP5 a "DMR" (and by that I mean a gun with considerably longer effective range than stock AEGs) if you wanted to. With R-hops and tightbores, barrel length isn't really too important for range so what you're really looking for is a gun that looks like a DMR and can play the part. I'd say SR-25 or M-14 because they both have good strong gearboxes for high power upgrades (only if it's an elongated V2 for SR-25) and they are both real DMRs. M-14 SOCOM would be my personal choice because I prefer shorter barrels. Buy whatever style externals you like the most, because if you're going to make a proper DMR the internals will be upgraded anyways. Stinger does have a good point about the STANAG mags being very convenient, but at the same time, having 7.62 sizes mags is one of the cool things about using a DMR. EDIT: And don't get a KWA. I know tons of people swear by them, and whether or not they're actually amazing/horrible (depending on your viewpoint) they have some proprietary parts which may limit your upgrade choices. My 2ยข

Except for the additional FPS since most DMR's are semi automatic You don't get to go higher in FPS just because you have what would be, in real steel, a true DMR. Like Snarf said, you can make a P90 shoot 450 FPS and still use it. You would have a 50-foot MED, but you would have the same with a 450 FPS SR-25. If he's looking for a true DMR externally, why would he post a link to an M16 he was considering?

From experience I would keep away from KWA. Just too proprietary for any upgrading really in my opinion.
Like someone else said, don't go with G&G sr25, get something with the V2.5 GB. Plenty of upgrades, and allows for high FPS, longer barrels, easier use with heavier bbs and much more due to its extended cylinder and associated parts.
And for M14s, I've only had experience with CYMA sco16 and EBRs. I hear G&P is amazing. Both CYMA/G&P are TM clones, and awesome platforms from my experiences and opinion. G&G has a different style gearbox, and have not yet delved into one to say much on their internals.
But my suggestion would be a G&P SR25 if you can find one. They have awesome externals and very nice internals. And if you can't/don have tht sort of budget, go for A&K and plan to upgrade. (IMO) Retro Arms has indestructible after market GB shells, both QC spring guide and regular. Seigtek just came out with gears and gearsets for extended pistons/gearboxes. There are plenty of options out there. And that way, you have a platform that is a real steel DMR platform.
Just my thoughts. I look at everything by their insides when it comes to guns haha.

I'm so doing this with my P90 know just to prove it can be done haha. On to the subject at hang though. I personally would go with the SR25. I have seen both a SR25 and a M14 on the field, but the SR25 user was getting hits that the other player was not able to. However this is likely on the fault of the operator and not the gun. Either way my choice goes with the SR25.

Thanks you for all the replies, they have been very helpful.
What would you suggest?
I put the M16 in more as an after thought rather than for serious consideration.
Thanks again!
