I wonder if we could post stuff on craigslist and have a section here called "craigslist sales thread" for now. It's technically off site. Also in case anyone was looking for another alternative, there is something up and running now for anyone with deals pending.

Nope, airsoft violates Craigslist ToS as well. Sent from my SCH-I545 using proboards I find that extremely hard to believe given the massive number of airsoft Listings on Craigslist.

They don't allow bb guns. Regardless or what you call it, and what airsoft is legally classified as, any well put together post I've made has been deleted because CL is community moderated and they kept flagging it. It's stupid but that's just how it is.

Wow really! I always wondered why my stuff I put on craigslist was constantly flagged.... I wonder if we could just take out commerce for now and bring it back at a later date. If it has been ten years and no one has noticed or cared until now we could probably go another ten again. Probably not the safest or best idea though.

I know I'd be more than happy to make a commerce forum so we can keep everything else here. I've got tons of free time and not much of a social life these days (third shift work).

I think that we need to inform Proboards that we can and will just move on to another forum host. They lose, not us. They make money from the ads on each forum so if we drop this board, thats less money for them.
Its a shame, cause we have been here forever! I dont think they understand how big this is. If they give us hell for our commerce section, are other airsoft forums having this issue as well? I say we take up donations and move to a nicer house, and let proboards know they can kiss our..... grits.

In the grand scheme we are a drop in the bucket. They state that they have 16 million visitors per month. Assuming the home page is accurate and we actually get 1000 visitors per day (which I highly doubt there's actually 800 guests visiting every day) we make up 0.1% of that. More than likely we're probably a third of that. They won't care.

X is correct. I tried to see if a vbulletin forum would be self sustainable on adds alone. From what I figured, if we did get 1000 hits per day, it would earn a max of $13 per day if you were flooded with ads. A banner ad and some in text adsence would likely net around $1.50 per day. Now, this doesn't account for users with adblock, so likely it could be lower. Vbulletin would cost roughly $450 per year to run.
I was considering dropping the cash to start a Vbulletin forum, but I really don't trust we would get 1000+ unique visitors per day. The only way to sustain a forum would be to have a subscriber forum, with some sort of subscriber benefits. Of course there would also be a free section.
To do this, I'm assuming I would have to make some sort of LLC and file taxes. I'm not super well versed on business and tax laws.
There is another option that is being tested... We'll figure it out.

But if all airsoft groups ended up following suit, it would be more significant, we cant be the only group getting this.
Edit cause Squirrel posted while I was typing.
If we set a small member fee for using commerce like Airsoft forums. Com does, but lower fee's. "I feel the admin there is using the forums as a job" but maybe charge a small percentage for the sale, just to keep us able to use this service. They charge like $75 to be allowed to post sales items. That seems ridiculous to me, but if I sell a $100 item, what would be a fair percentage fee? Hell, even a $1 donation for any sale over $20 seems like that alone could cover a $450 a year forum.
It doesnt need to be mandatory either... The ones that would donate, would be the ones that want to continue to have our group together. The commerce section is a huge part of us, and I dont like to buy and sell on other forums cause its a "local" thing. I love that we have so many people around us that we can get whatever shipped to us in just a day or three.
Not to mention meeting new airsoft buddies around the area. I would gladly donate from each sale, hell, I have probably had enough sales on here this year that could cover a good amount of that cost haha..

Ranger, there are already several national airsoft forums. Keeping it a Michigan Only forum is what we are intending on doing. If we were considering a national group, we might as well all just go to airsoft society.

When did I say anything about national, I want this to stay a local thing too.. Not even sure where you got the opinion I suggested anything other than local. By follow suit, I mean other airsoft proboards do the same thing.. Since thats what follow suit means.

Could get around this with some careful wording.
"These items are not for sale, but I value them at around $XXX - Text me if you'd like to discuss my gear further!"
