Anybody interested in the new Tanaka M700...
It's gas, similar to the Kar 98K...and from what I have tried out with mine, it's more accurate and consistent than the Kar 98k, and the MOST IMPORTANT point that I think will bring this rifle out onto the field more than the 98k will, is that it's GOT A SCOPE MOUNT!!!
And just wondering, how much would you guys pay for this rifle? $300? $400? $500?

From what I heard of the Kar98, I'd probably drop $400 on this baby. I think $500 would be a bit much unless the rumors that it's a limited release are true. It looks great (Cept for that front sight) and I'm a fan of the M24, so this would be the next best thing in my book.

I don't know, I agree with you about $400 for the 98K, but I think this one is even better than the 98K...I have both and I certainly think the M700 definitely out performs the 98K in my opinion...
Therefore, I think even $450 is a reasonable price.
Oh, one more thing I forgot to mention in my last post, I like the M700 more than the 98K because the bolt action is even smoother than the 98K, if you know what I mean.

If it shoots the same general FPS outta the box as the KAR, I'd definitely make that my choice if I wanted a "modern" sniper rifle. Personally, though, I think I'd rather have the new rifle Maruzen is working on.
edit 4-450 is reasonable, IMO, given the level of worksmanship present on Tanaka's guns, and, if performance is in line with that of the KAR, it's a slightly cheaper option for snipers at that price vs. upgraded APS-2's or M40s

The front sight is easily removable.
I shot one two days ago. ;D

Newman,
I agree the front sights are kind of easy to remove, very similar to the Kar98k, but it can also be easily fixed with a little of adhesive or something similar...I fixed my Kar98k's same problem by wrapping a little bit of tape on the inside and then the front sights fits nice and snug ever after...this is probably a little better than using adhesive, since it's not as permanent...
But overall, do you like the M700? because I remember you shot my KAR98K and you hit a fence pole from like 60-70 feet away and you were very impressed (and that was without even calibrating the sights...) how do you like this new rifle?

hmm...
Good question, I'll have to ask them about that... I'm in HK right now, so it'll be easy to ask...
what else were you looking at getting? extra mags? scope? bi-pod? suppressor?
Let me know, maybe I can find them cheap cheap here in HK...

I personally didn't like the Tanaka M700. It just had a bad "feel" for me. Maybe it's because I'm still getting over my jitters from owning an M40 (which is basically an M700 with modified stock and other crap).
The cycling was smooth, but too smooth. I didn't like it. *shrugs*
The accuracy left something to be desired, but that was probably due to the .25 bbs being used.
Range was not up to the K98 level.
Dang, I LOVE the K98! ;D
