Over the weekend at OP: Wounded Wing I fell on my M4 and sadly broke the upper receiver and hop-up. I would like to know if the G&G EBB M4 upper is anything special or if any G&G M4 upper will work on it. i would like to get a metal upper and lower for it now. If anybody can shed any light on my current situation it would be much appreciated.

I'm guessing so, since the NBB version doesn't work for the EBB version. The only thing is they don't carry a metal lower it seems, odd. I don't believe you can use your ABS lower as well (there's a comment in the EBB version that says the metal upper doesn't fit the ABS lower). Besides those statistics, I can't say if a different metal body could work or anything.

The G&G EBB receiver has more room at the top underneath the rail to accommodate the EBB system. A NBB body, or a generic m4 body will not fit. G&G makes a metal receiver kit for their EBB system, and I have seen it for sale on ASGI.

I'm sure you could also remove the ebb unit if you felt like it, then you would have a lot more choices in what receivers you use.

You could remove the EBB, which involves opening the GB, replacing the cylinder with one that does not have a hole for the EBB, and cutting a notch in the rear of the new cylinder due to gearbox features. You would also have to rig up a custom charging handle as the EBB assembly is what holds the charging handle.

Well if he were getting a new receiver the charging handle and accessories are usually included so that shouldn't be an issue. Opening up the gearbox may or may not be an issue though. I don't have any experience with G&Gs but I just wanted to make him aware of his options.
