I agree but I'd rather be the EMT that did something than the EMT that stood around. For me it's a little different: Get sued doing something, get sued doing nothing. Even while on-duty I risk that every day. That's why most of us have liability insurance.

Oh no I agree. If you're current on your certs then by all means do it and help the person. There's no reason not to.

I work with that guy's roommate. He changed jobs and has been busy with other hobbies and work, but they also had their apartment broken into and his 416 and some other gear was taken. He's still interested, but lacking time and equipment at the moment.

I can't believe that this hasn't been brought up yet, but here we go. I served and I've received more than enough training to deal with an emergency situation. Would I do anything in the event of anything less than a life/limb situation, hell no. Now you may at this point be thinking "Well gee Slippy, that's kind of a dick move." But there is a very good reason for this. If you do not have any certification or it has expired you are not supposed to do anything. You can be sued. I can establish an airway, apply splints, administer IV's, seal a sucking chest wound, ect. ect. But unless a life was in immediate danger, I wouldn't do a thing. It's not worth being sued or potentially facing criminal charges if I were to mess up. But thankfully, as established by this thread, there are always people with the proper and current creds at events. Technically, anybody could be sued.. But those of us with state issued medical licenses are more or less required to at least offer aid..

Navy Corpsman (Medic) for five years, let's see how much bullshit I can gem up with what I did here: - Nine months Naval Hospital Corps School - Three months Field Medical Training Battalion - Two weeks of live tissue (pig lab) Combat Trauma Management - One deployment all around the world, a few shrapnel wounds from idiots using bangalores on loose dirt with "C" wire above it, shit ton of heat casualties, a few closed fractures, some busted heads requiring staples, probably ten or twelve suture jobs - One deployment to Afghanistan consisting of (as the first guy on scene, not that bullshit combat rescue coming in on a bird eating ice cream and everything): multiple amputations, gunshot wounds to necks, torsos, arms, hundreds of dehydration cases (done more rectal temps than I care to think about), multiple concussion victims (IEDs, inside vehicles that sorta thing), multiple suture jobs to include prolonged field care/second intention healing - After three and a half years as a line corpsman ended up becoming a Combat Trauma Management Instructor (Live tissue/pig lab) for a year and a half. Made good money doing in in the private sector at a whopping $300 a day cash check for doing things to pigs that PETA would just love to see/know the location to (All patients were 100% sedated, I made sure to hook mine up as I'm a big animal lover). During my time as a Live Tissue Training Instructor for SIMMEC (http://simmectraining.com/) ended up getting out of the Military and now I'm just a dude with too much knowledge on the trauma. Nothing really "Thinking mans" type like reading ECG's, pushing drugs (other than morphine/OTCs), or doing open surgery in the back of a rig.
When it comes to the trauma piece, and just about any injury you'd incur on an airsoft field I can probably handle it. Currently I've only got a Registered Medical Assistant license and a BLS-Instructor card, so unless you need CPR I'll just offer advice. Pretty soon I'll be attending EMT-B and Medic schooling, which should be an interesting time.
