Alright guys it is that time of year again.... Firearm Deer Season!!!
Players, that means that you should take extra measures to ensure nobody gets shot by informing neighbors if you're going to be out playing and wearing orange hats. Stupid hats are better than an accident. Better yet, wait a few days for the initial craziness to settle down before playing. I know the hunters will appreciate it.
Hunters, remember to check your targets as well as what is beyond them. Always wait until it is light enough to see well and stop when it gets harder to see, again be 100% sure of the target.
Good luck and happy hunting!

Don't play on public land, if you're playin on private land make sure nobody else is there. Don't ruin the hunt for others either. If you know somebody is hunting don't go out there.

Way back in the day, Newman had standing permission for our team to play on a sizable tract of privately owned land near Saline. The owners were a nice old couple that lived down the street, and for almost two years just told us to go out any old time we wanted, no need to even check in because they never go out there. Of course we never saw anybody out there the whole time we played. Until of course, one hunting season where we ran into some bow hunters. It had completely slipped the owners' minds that we might be out there that week and they let some friends do some hunting (I'm sure it was a good spot, too. We saw deer regularly) when the season opened. We were incredibly lucky that we weren't shot, and we called it quits for the fall. From then on, we always dropped a phone call to the owners to make sure the field was clear when we wanted to play.
The moral of the story? Just because you always play at a field and never see people there doesn't mean that you don't end up in somebody's sights. Be careful out there and make sure nobody else has [legal] access to the land when you want to play (if they're trespassing, there's not much you can do except be vigilant).
