Alright gents, I need some help finding gear that can fit me. I'm 6'6 400lbs. I know, I'm fat and I'm working on losing it. In the meantime I'm looking to put together a simple Contractor styled set-up so I can attend more than just Rec Games.
I'm not sure of the sizing of Chest rigs and the like, and was hoping for some help on the matter.

I recently started using a Tactical Tailor MAV with the X-Harness. I have to say that it is the most comfortable rig that I have ever worn. As far as the sizing goes, I would have to know the size around your stomach area and I could make sure the straps could go out to your size. But if you are planning on losing weight, a chest rig would be your best bet for a sure fit over the long run. It is also a really affordable rig and it holds enough kit for any airsoft game. REC or Milsim. www.optactical.com/onepimavbo.htmlwww.optactical.com/xharnessmav.htmlIf you have any more questions don't hesitate to ask.

I know a few people similar to your size, who use the Pantac RRV and love it for its adjustability and it being comfortable. store.pantacusa.com/vests/recon-chest-rig.html. There's also a hydration system specific to it. Hope this helps. Sent from my SCH-I535 using proboards

I like both those options and thank you for giving me some ideas. I didn't even know about that Tactical Tailor site. The Pantec is really nice, but a bit out of my price range. I do think the TT MAV would be a better fit for me, and its more in my price range. I was looking at the 2 Piece MAV over the single. Since I think the 2 Piece can be modified for a better fit for me. The only obstacle now is finding some sort of belt now really.

I like TT gear a lot but by the time you finish adding up MAV bits, you aren't going to save anything compared to a Pantec. The only upside is that with the MAV you can start with just the rig and build it up over time. The downside is that the bib and the X-harness don't go together, so if you want all that real estate, you need to decide up front. I was going to suggest the HSGI Wasatch, which is so big that skinny guys have complained it won't fit them, but it's a whole 'nother price point compared to a MAV. The value is there since it already has just about all the pouches you need, but it's a flat $230 investment.

Very nice rig but, yeah, out of my price range. What extra bits outside of some mag pouches and a radio pouch would I really need on the MAV? Since I'm fairly certain right now I can build the MAV rig for about $100.

A hydration carrier at the very least. I guess you could use a separate backpack carrier, but I think there's value in keeping it all together so that the front and back loads balance each other. It may be possible to attach a carrier right to the MAC's cross straps, but rigs I've seen rely on the X-harness.

When running a chest rig, it isn't nearly as important to balance the front and back as compared to when using a plate carrier. I've run a 1961 with Camelbak over a Safariland low vis carrier. The only issue I had was that the shoulder straps would slip off a bit and dig into my arm pits, but that was easily remedied by correctly adjusting the sternum strap rather than ignoring it.
I'd get at least one general purpose pouch outside just having your mag and radio pouches. Having that extra pouch for random bits and bobs is quite useful for things like batteries, tools, BBs, kill rags, or storing things that you are only removing for a bit of time, like gloves or a barrel condom.

I would recommend a CIRAS because of its HUGE amount of adaptability, but with a budget, it might cost a little to much. They usually run 150+, not including the pouches you need. Still, I have seen a lot of bigger guys running them.

No, my budget for the rig got dismantled. I had to set up a second aquarium because my fish like making babies. I'm not mean enough to just let them die. So I'm back to saving up money for this. Likely I'll end up going with the two piece MAV, and 2 double mag pouches, dump pouch, all-purpose, and a radio pouch.
