Hey, Well, I've used the Glock series before.... I've found them to be quite reliable; I am also looking into buying a G-18C soon. My friend has been using his DE50 for awhile.... he likes big toys ;D... he says it's been working great. Well, I would go with Glock, but that's just me.... and yea, SOCOM's are good too - Grunt

If you want my opinion I've always noticed that the glocks work well with the mp5 series aeg's. If your looking for a full auto I would recommend the Glock 18C for a quick firing sidearm. But if your looking for something with a little bit higher accuracy and doesnt fling as many BB's then the Glock 17 or 26 might be your best bet .

I would suggest A Sig, but the problems ailing them in airsoft is too much, at least with the Gbb's. Therefore I would suggest a M9. Great gun, lots of upgrades, and fairly cheap. Plus, Solid Snake carries one! Woo-Hoo@Metal Gear Solid!

I think you would like steak for diner tonight. What? You mean you're in the mood for samon? yeah, there's a point to that. Me telling you that you want something for diner is absurd. Out of the milion or so dishes available for diner, how can i possibly guess the right one? The same thing works for guns. Go watch a movie, or play a game with lots of guns. Figure out what you think looks cool and then come back and ask who makes the best version of it. So far, people have suggested Glocks, M9's, Sigs, the Mk 23, and the DE to you, but what if your heart desires a 1911? Not one person mentioned it. Does that mean that you shouldn't get one? By all means, NO. WA makes the best 1911's available, most top every other gun listed in some aspects, but falls way short in others. That's just an example, of course, you may hate 1911's, and you're entitled to that opinion (even though it's the wrong one ). So, go find a gun that you like the looks of, then ask about which airsoft version excels in which aspects of that specific model. For Mk 23's (SOCOM's) specifically, i have no experience, and have never read up much about them, they don't appeal to me in the least (another example of what i cited above). This forum, MiA, offers a great abundence of general knowlege, and a fair amount of more specific knowlege, but honestly, we haven't grown to a size at which any and all questions can be answered. So what you're probably going to want to do is head over to some of the larger forums (www.airsoftplayers.com www.airsoftohio.com and vettaserv.pct.net/aszone/ are great) and start reading. Make sure you utilize the search function of all three sites (ya happy Jacko?) to get the most information possible. The guns haven't changed over a period of time, so initial reviews are just as valid as any posted yesterday (of course initial reviews can't cite long term problems, so you will have to rely on more recent reviews of any gun). happy reading. [edit] BTW, Hado, Minky or Newman, can you move this to the gas gun forum? Thanks

blag,
There's nothing wrong with suggestions, but in most cases, just throwing out gun names, especially without a full review canno only be pointless (which it usually is), but it can be dangerous. What if Bill (and i'm only using you as a hypothetical example, I hope you don't mind) gets a Desert Ealge because it was reccomended to him, but he really doesn't like the look of a desert eagle. He just wasted his money on a gun with which he's not satisfied. Bill (and anybody else in his situation) needs to come to his own conclusion to what he wants and needs, it's nothing that we can do for him. You say salmon, but i offered steak. That demonstrates it right there. Only after finding what style, size, mag capacity, etc, he wants can we help him choose the gun that fits him best.

One big (pun intended) point to think about with the SOCOM is the size of the gun. It's pretty massive, so you'll have to consider that when picking out a holster or considering how to carry it. The M9 is a much more average sized pistol, and will offer many more holster options.

kinda old thread, but if you haven't bought anything yet...
i thought about getting an mk23 at some point, but after reading about them, i decided against. ksc came out with 2 (or is it 3?) versions of the socom, and apparently both have constant problems.
i read a thread or two on ASZ talking about how in order to make the socom skirmish worthy you had to put in another 2-300 dollars of upgrades.
If you want a nice tactical look for your MP5a4, i'd suggest a KJW USP. it has two noted problems that i've read about, and neither of these i've actually encountered with my USP:
1: Magazine gas leaks. if you lube them up, or at least don't dry them the hell out, this ought not be a problem. 2. trigger breaking. the trigger design for the USP is fine, as long as it's made from steel... which KJW doesn't do. so, there's a chance the trigger can break off. apparently, you can actually get a real-steel trigger to replace it, and barring that, i believe you can get a cheap USP springer and rip that open for the trigger.
Other than those two problems, the USP is a really good gun. it shoots at a nice fps, around 260-270, has a fixed hopup that was set for .2g bbs, and it can shoot in colder weather than any other gbb i've ever seen. i played in 10 degree weather a couple weeks back. one fill got off 2.5 magazines, while my G18c shit itself (vented all the gas) upon pulling the trigger.
So yeah... i wouldn't hesitate to suggest the USP.
barring that... get the G19, hehe. everyone seems to like it.

I just got a Mk23 socom fron mss and I love it. the only problem is its a big gun. Power is good. One other thing if you are a sniper the socom is a very silent gun

I like the SOCOM Mk23, and im thinking about getting one to play in pistol only games because my GBB eats too much gas, and my springer isnt a wise choice when everyone has a gas gun
and the guy in Metal Gear Solid uses a Mk23 while Raiden in MGS2 uses both an M9 and a Mk23

No, Raiden used lightning and spun around/teleported a lot.
(I know, not funny).
Hado, any input on the TM Mk23 and gas usage?
