I've been looking at the Well g96 gas sniper rifle as a primary but I watched a youtube video of a shooting demonstration and it was horrible for accuracy. I will add that the shooter did not mention anything about how much gas in the mag, if he adjusted hop correctly or what weight ammunition he was using and I could not tell if wind was bad or not. I am aware that its a cheaper clone of the Ares version and I'm fine with that seeing as I can purchase it for $250 from airsplat. What I need to know is if it is very accurate? 200ft would be good for me. I cannot find any reviews online that tell about distance and accuracy so I came here. I play with a team that does not like to announce when they have been hit and that is their dilemma. I want something that i can clearly see hit them and if anything see them flinch after being hit. My p90 was just either not strong enough or wasn't reaching them with effective power. I only go for body shots and everyone wears protective eye-wear. So I would like to know through my scope when i hit someone instead of trusting them to be honest.

Over on airsoft sniper forums the guys had said the Ares version wasn't very accurate. Well airsoft guns are usually junk. Basically you would be buying a poorly made replica of a gun that wasn't renowned for it's accuracy to begin with.
Cheap accurate airsoft sniper rifles don't really exist.

No it's simply a shitty rifle pure and simple.
You won't be hitting 200ft with it, maybe at best around 150ft if you get lucky and get a decent one. Gas or spring don't matter, no sniper rifle on the market is going to offer the 200ft accuracy you are looking for. There are a couple, but they are way out of your price range.
It sounds like you are simply out to hurt people with a high powered rifle. In which case, you can get a spring/gas sniper rifle. But be prepared to be flinching and ducking from 8 AEG's that have nearly twice the range of your sniper rifle. Oh and don't forget, if they're anything closer than 50ft, and you shoot them, you'll be quickly thrown off the field.
Power is about 5% of effective range and accuracy in airsoft. If you're P90 wasn't giving the range and accuracy you want there are a couple areas of improvement. 1. Your hop up bucking. I'm going to go out on a limb and assume it's a clone, in which case you have a low quality hop up and bucking. With a quality bucking you will increase the accuracy and range significantly. 2. Also assuming it's a clone, a proper tightbore barrel is required. Unfortunately the P90 is equipped with short 247mm barrel. You can add longer ones, but will need a barrel extension or silencer to cover it. Even with that however, the normal length will only be around 363mm.
Now for sniper rifles. 1. With the exception of Tanaka and TM, any stock "sniper rifle" is pretty much shit. That goes for WELL, Maruzen, ARES, UTG, whatever. 2. If you're buying one because you think the high FPS will get you better results, think again. The effective range of most stock sniper rifles is around 150-180ft, well within the range of most stock AEG's. 3. If you're buying a high FPS rifle of any kind just so you then you are in the wrong sport and shouldn't be playing at all. If you think they're being dishonest about their hit calling, then you probably should find a new group to play with. A harder shooting rifle isn't going to make them play any more honest. 4. If you want a magnifying scope to check, you can easily throw one on the P90, there's nothing stopping that.

Alright, I went through and re-read everything here including my own post and realized i sound like a horrible person. I assure you I don't intend to harm anyone past a welt and yes they will probably never play fair unless they had a proper leader bring the subject up to them. The p90 is not mine anymore and not mine to upgrade. I thought that with a gas rifle I would get some sort of decent distance but I guess I was wrong. Some of their players do play fair although with the p90 I saw one of their players get hit when i mounted a 4x scope and he kept firing long after. My next thought was an SR-25 possibly one of the upgraded ones from the commerce section, range was my issue this past game and I cannot stand falling short of the enemy. I know for a fact that some of my rounds did hit them but some were just too far out.
Opposing team: I know this has nothing to do with the main post but I would like to inform MIA of the team we were playing. most of their players think they are hot s**t because they have a ics or a l96. I do not know why my people keep playing with them but it is mainly the fact that we do not want to drive out to some places that are better regulated. The main leader of the team is part of Young Marines and feels he is obligated to do what he wants and I think that rubs off on the rest of the team. One of their players has a brand new ICS m4 that the leader made him hand over because he forgot his weapon. I know this turned into more of a rant and I am sorry for making the thread completely off topic.

Just because the AEG you are using is 300 feet long doesn't mean it will shoot far. If you are looking to build a long range AEG go over to the airsoft sniper forums and look through their long range AEG section.
Picking up a JG SR-25 isn't going to give you 200' + shots right out of the box.

Right and I have been in the game long enough to know this. Thank you everybody for your inputs.

This has been stated time and time again, by myself and any other SASS (Semi Automatic Sniper System) or BASR (Bolt Action Sniper Rifle) user. If you want anything with high performance you are looking at around $700-$1000+ to make a solid performing sniper rifle.
Again, it sounds like you're playing with the wrong group.....definitely not a wise thing to do in the long run. Besides if they don't call it, they're simply asking to be shot more.....I don't know anyone that would empty a whole mag on someone if they don't call it (definitely not me, all I got is SASS's).
Anyways. If you want decent out-of-the-box accuracy at longer ranges, look into the G&G M14's or G&G M16's. They're very long rifles (in comparison to the P90), but do have a decent accurate range of somewhere around 180-190ft.

Well right now I am looking at a GI G4-A3 Base gun is a G&G m4 and it has a bunch of extra stuff added to it, one being a 6.03 barrel. says 400+ fps with a customer chronoed 377+/- with .25. No one said anything about distance and that's all i really care about no matter where I am playing or who I am playing with.
True I tried not to waste my rounds with them but in the beginning i though maybe more rounds will help. It didn't so I stopped wasting.
I do not know where the sniper thread is so I am not sure where to post.

It's not a thread it is a forum. Here is a link if you're still interested airsoftsniper.proboards.com/. Anyway, if you still wanted to get a Well G96 you can upgrade it with a AEG tbb, hop-up bucking and nub. So if you want better range and accuracy you can get it. It is really fun as a sniper to be 150+ feet away and hitting someone. When you hit someone with a good scoped rifle you will see the BB impact causing ripples on there jacket and you will hear a nice popping sound similar to throwing a small stone at hanging canvas. Getting hits with a sniper rifle is very rewarding, though it will just piss you off even more if their hand doesn't go up after they're hit.

Getting hits with a sniper rifle is very rewarding, though it will just piss you off even more if their hand doesn't go up after they're hit. And I don't even have to write anything special. Since it's ZTW I will simply call your post stupid, unsafe, unsportsman like, and a danger to everyone you play with. As for 150ft+ that's a very good joke. a JG M4 can easily hit 150ft, a KWA 2GX M4 can easily hit 200ft, a G&G M14 can exceed 210ft, your little bolt action obviously has a handicap. And before it's brought up. Stealth is not part of this conversation. The OP is simply looking for a decent outdoor range rifle. Now with that out of the way... The Airsoft GI G4-A3 DMR: Not a bad list really, but down to the detail. 1. Base gun: G&G Combat Machine M4 with electric blow-back A decent starting gun, out of the box FPS is typically around 330FPS or 380FPS (reports vary). Stock body is plastic, and usually comes with a crane stock (wired to the rear). 2. Rail/Flip up sights/outer barrel/crane stock Nothing special, personally I think it looks ugly, but the parts are at least good quality and will take some abuse. 3. 6.03mm tightbore No brand name is given, however Airsoft GI commonly uses the Madbull Black Python version 2 6.03mm tightbore barrels (varying length depending on rifle). In this case with a longer barrel it's most likely the 509mm. It might possibly be the ASGI brand 510mm, but I really haven't seen them selling their custom built rifles with their own brand internals (odd, makes one wonder about the quality). On the note of M4's. The gearboxes commonly fail when you have a high FPS, most commonly above 400FPS. With the G4-A3 shooting 400-420 there is some concern about cracking the gearbox shells, but as long as you keep it in semi-auto it will put less strain on it. If it chrono's above 410 you should definitely look at having it modded to semi-auto only, or having the FPS lowered to 400FPS to maintain full auto and increase the life of the internals. The inner barrel, which is really the only part ASGI changes, is going to give you good accuracy. 509mm is probably about the ideal length for a long range rifle. + or - 50mm doesn't make a huge difference. 6.03mm is pretty much proven as the ideal diameter bore for a AEG sniper rifle or DMR. Unfortunately ASGI doesn't change the hop up bucking, the stock G&G ones aren't bad, but they aren't the greatest either. This is a cheap fix however, and a good bucking usually only costs about $10 or so.

Thank you for the in depth analyzing. I just posted a different rifle that I would like to make into a dmr in the aeg section, i figured i would put it in the proper thread.

What I meant by 150+ft is generally just a distance that a target will be engaged generally for an ensured hit, but my max effective range is around 300ft. Bolt action rifles are just as safe and sportsmanlike than any other AEG if you follow the regulations.
No one ever complains about a bolt action rifle firing to hot if it is to regulation standards because we are at a safe distance. Snipers are only going to hit you once and I think it is damn better than being sprayed with 30bbs from a player that's too trigger happy with a 400fps AEG that has a 11.1lipo in it.
The satisfaction of getting a confirmed hit with my sniper rifle isn't about inflicting pain on the target. At the minimum engagement distance of 50ft the bbs that my rifle is sending down range will hurt just the same as a 400fps AEG at 20ft. The energy of the bb diminishes with increased range. At 150+ft someone getting hit by a high powered bolt action rifle will definitely feel it more than an AEG, but it isn't going to hurt the player.
I really don't get the prejudice that people have against high powered bolt action rifles. I can't upgrade the fps past 550 and I don't even want to. As someone said on this thread high fps doesn't mean a lot more range. It's not like I'm a noob sniper that tries to get head shots on people, head shots aren't even a good idea because it's a smaller target and they're dangerous.
I did chime in a little late to the party, but I wanted to clarify that it is possible to get upgrades for the Well G96 with AEG barrels and hop-up bucking and nubs which would increase the accuracy and range(created by better hop-up not fps).
Anyway there is an inherent handicap with using bolt action rifles because of the slow ROF and they require a whole different playing style to use, so If you want to have more of a general playing style then going for a DMR set up would suit your needs better stig. In this matter I agree.

Just don't skimp out on the base gun. It'll make your life a whole lot easier to buy a good gun, and do a few upgrades. Rather than buy a shitty clone, and have to gut it. There are a reason for the price gaps. I would personally suggest investing in a TM M14.

Well, to answer generally about snipers. Gas or spring, they're going to cost you much more than the initial gun in terms of upgrades, time, and fine tuning in order to make it a consistent accurate shooter to 150+ feet, and even more time and money to be plugging away at 200-250+ feet. A good solid upgrading platform would be the KJW m700, as there's a plethora of parts and information for upgrades. Sniping is rewarding, but you also have to be extremely patient and meticulous with your weapon as you'll be constantly fine tuning. It takes a very specialized kind of mentality to use it.
However, to the OP, in your situation, the people you play with will probably still play like jerks regardless of what you use. But in any case, it seems like you just want something that shoots decent and well with good range out of the box. Like many people have said before, choose a solid AEG platform with a longer barrel length. Choose from a primary airsoft company, not a clone brand. go with a G&G, Classic Army, or KWA, or ARES. It's a higher initial cost but it truly evens out when you have to consider how fewer upgrades/replacement parts you'll be buying in the long run. G&G m14s are great models to work a dmr off of, and you'll be more comfortable with the full stock rifle if you want to switch to a dmr role.
