I know this is probably somewhere in a thread, but since there's no thread (At least, in this section) dedicated to it ANd i searched for a handful of key words and phrases, I ask thee:
What's the best way to get the orange off a TM TM ;D slide?

go to www.airsoftohio.com and search there forum. it has been addressed there MANY times. they have a much bigger database to search through, and their search function is much more useful. Also check out www.airsoftplayers.com, they'll have just as much, if not more info on paint removal as airsoftohio. www.airsoftzone.com would probably have a lot of info too, but you would have to search through tons of crap to find it.

Somebody owes me some money. Using my immense psychic powers, I knew that one of the first three replies would be 'Search for it'. Now I'm registered on three new AirSoft forums and still have yet to find. AirsoftOhio was a bunch of people saying 'Don't do it' or "Search for it' and AirsoftZone isn't working for me. So now, I try AirsoftPlayers.com.
Personally, I think it'd be nice to have a thread about removal of orange paint on these forums for people. Otherwise, we could basically tell folks to search for just about anything at other forums, right?

Nail polish remover. But be careful. The polish can do damage to your slide as seen in some of the close up pictures of my glock. But it's nothing to bad.

Hoppe's gun solvent. I've used it on a TM USP springer, and Tac Master. Both plastic and it didn't harm either. The only negative is that the Tac Master has a flat finish painted over the plastic and this tends to come off. To be honest, unless you really look for it you can't tell. (plus you get that nice "gun" smell too)

Yeah, I found that same thread, c and p'ed to AirsoftPlayers.com. I guess knowing stuff and knowing where to find stuff are mutually exclusive.

Different retailers use different types of paint, so there's no one sure way to remove the stuff. I'd stay away from nail polish remover and paint thinner until you've ruled out easier, less damaging methods. The first thing I always try is rubbing alcohol, and that has worked on 90% of the orange I've seen. Some people have said that silicone oil will work too, although I don't see how... If you do end up having to use nail polish remover or thinner, be very careful and take your sweet time. Most of that stuff will actually melt the plastic and cause cosmetic damage to the gun itself.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate all your help. I used some fin grit sandpaper (I think this stuff is something in the high 100's) and that worked very well for the broad patches. Left the matte finish in 90% of the area. I'll have to use rubbing alcohol in the nooks and crannies.

Honestly on every gun ive had to de-orange ive used gasoline, ive used it on metal and on my TM MK23 springer. It took the orange off like it wasnt there and i havent notice any damage at all to the plastic. just a little gas on a Q-tip and swirl it around.
(this is just a suggestion, it has worked for me but i may have gotten lucky.. no promises)

Also, gasoline works great for cleaning your hands. Just had to add that.

as long as you don't feel the need to light up a square after a good hand scrubing.
