Rob, Here is a check list for you.
1.) Are batteries good? 2.) Is there any corrosion on the contacts or battery springs. 3.) Once you have it appart, look at the bulb, the wires, and the contacts. You can check continuity of the wires to make sure that there is not a break in them. Also, look at the buld closely, you are looking for a broken filament. Most will tell you to look for a black burn, but if it was damaged in shipping then it would not be on and thus no black indicator.
Most commonly it is a broken wire, connector or corrosion.

I know that too. Must of had my mind in more location than one. If it is any consulation I was working on battery pricing at the time as well. I did not know that about the thai dish, and I watch quite a bit of southpark. The sh$t you learn.
