What are you supposed to do for AEGs...? What do you really do...?
I know i've read in many manuals to field strip the gun and lube it up, but like paintball, this is usually impractical (and with the amount of shit on my SIR would take hours)... what do you gentlemen commonly do to keep your guns in tiptop shape?

i usually clean the barrel with Hoppes #9 and a patch every couple games... i've taken apart every one of my standards and hicaps and lubricated/cleaned them...around 8000 rounds ago, i tore down to the gearbox and re-greased it...
Not really much else to do that i can think of...

nothing makes it airsoft safe.
i neglected to mention that i remove the barrel and strip the hop-up unit from it.
i wouldn't be suprised if it ate rubber...hehe
but as to why?
it just does a damn fine job on cleaning bare metal.

ive learned from paintball that using lubes that arn't rubber friendly can suck. It eats through o-rings and causes malfunctions that will drive a person nuts. A gearbox take down every 8000 rounds sounds reasonable, but I am still paranoid of taking down my gun.

well, it's been that long since i last tore it down... typically, i tear it down every 20-25,000 rounds. i've got better than 80,000 rounds through my gearbox...still intact. the original gears stripped out at around 20,000 or so... replaced them with some systema torque ups... best investment into my airsoft weapon i've made so far.

i have a high speed piston, motor, and gear set from systema... and i'm scared to death that it is going to strip on me (sounds to fast and brutal)

I clean the barrel and field strip my guns. Then every 6 months or so (or however long) I take down my gearbox and clean it out (corrosion from electrical connections, etc). And of course after I shoot full auto I shoot on semi a couple shots to reduce spring tension.

I wipe down the inside of the barrel with patches from my .22 kit using silicone oil on the first patch, the last two just thorough cleaning. I do this once a month or after around 3-5 games. I spray a little silicone oil in the chamber (where bb's enter from the mag) usually after I go through 10 hicaps. I should clean out my mags, but I've been too lazy.
