ok, i upgraded my sr-16 last night with a pdi140 spring and area 1000 bushings. i put the box back into the gun and hooked everything up except for the little door/blocker thing the you put on with 2 screws at the end of the pistol grip where the engine goes and it fires three shots(all i wanted to fire). so i put the door thing on and hooked everything back up and then i plugged in the battery and the fuse blew right away so i just completed the circut anyways and tried to fire and it sounds like a gun does when the battery is dead (click...click...click..) and the battery smoked.... . so i think it has something to do with the engine mounting that took me more time then the upgrade itself did. so if anyone has anyhelp please tell asap, thanks in advance.

Lets start from the beginning and run through a little checklist... Did your SR fire correctly and sound "normal" before you performed the upgrade?
Were you careful not to lose any parts and put everything back into the gearbox correctly (assuming you followed some instructions, so you know what's correct)?
Did you install the grip correctly, so that the relationship between the motor and gearbox is correct, and did you remember to install the 2 screws that secure the grip to the gearbox?
Did you carefully route the wires away from the pinion gear (motor gear) opening in grip (the hole between the grip and the gearbox) so that the motor will be properly seated against the top of the grip when the motor plate is installed? If the wires cross the pinion gear opening the motor will not fully install, no matter how much you turn the adjustment screw, eventually stripping either the pinion gear or the bevel gear. This is a common cause of motor/gear whine.
Did you remember to install the motor adjustment spacer in between the motor and motor cover/grip end? If you misplaced the spacer or forgot to install it the motor pinion gear will not mesh correctly with the bevel gear, causing either of the gears to eventually strip. This is a common cause of motor/gear whine.
Did you mess with the original motor spacer adjustment, by turning the set screw (allen screw) in the motor cover/grip end? The adjustment screw allows you to adjust the mesh between the pinion gear and bevel gear by pushing the motor into the grip more. You should not need to adjust the motor from the original factory setting, unless you change gear sets, motor (to a non-standard motor), or grips. This is a common cause of motor/gear whine.
This is where I'd start looking. If you don't understand any portion of this troubleshooting guide, you should let someone trustworthy and familiar with M16/M4 airsoft replicas work on it for you.

In addition to what frostee said, there are a few other things that could be causing the problem as well.
When I did my spring upgrade in my SR-16, I was a little careless the first time I put my mechbox back together and the piston was not seated properly in its guides. This caused it to jam, which meant that the gears couldn't turn, which meant that the motor couldn't turn, which blew my fuse (hey, it's better than stripping gears). But blowing fuses is always a bad sign. And simply completing the circuit, pulling the trigger, and hoping for the best is probably the last thing you should do (as evidenced by the fact that your battery started smoking).
As a side note, I'll be in West Michigan this weekend (it being opening weekend for deer season and all). My folks live in Fremont, which is a bit east of Muskegon. If you want me to come take a look at it, I should have some spare time.

ok, i think i installed everything correctly in the mechbox (followed uncompany guide) and i did mess with the adjustment screw but i only messed with it because it was whining. i belive everything is put together right. so i dont know is there anything else maybe? and does anyone know a good rule of thumb to adjust the screw like all the way in and then one full turn out or something to that matter... and i may take you up on that munin im gonna take it into WTS thursday and see what they say but im not gonna pay anything to have them adjust the motor (im broke) so we will see i guess.

ok good news, i could'nt do anything to help it out with the heck adjuster so i figured i would give it a shot and the screws to hold on the grip plate thing itself i just turned those about 1/4 turn each and i heard a noise like releaf was getting let off of the gears and they turned back almost i dunno hard to explain but it sounds normal now and shoots really good. thanks for all the help guys.
