Toothbrush, to be perfectly honest... If you dont feel comfortable taking your gun apart and trying it off the bat, then don't do it yourself. From what I understand, re-wiring is relatively easy, just time consuming... I don't know any specifics about the M4, however.
Have you considered just putting the battery bag on your foregrip? It'd look a bit odd, yes, but it works. Or just buy an AN/PEQ2 so that it doesnt look weird, *and* it'll be mountable on your foregrip's rails.

Talisman, unless he has an M4 RIS that battery box won't work, the bag will however. And I was gonna wait for someone to respond thats done this, but here goes. Understand I haven't but this is what it entails. Opening your mechbox to reroute wires and sticking them out the back of the box, shouldn't be horrible but not for the faint of heart or someone who has never torn apart a mechbox.
Luke
EDIT: confirmed my suggestions with a search

Find Newman's email address (should be in his profile) and email him for some instructions. He's rewired his M4 from front to back, back to front, and front to back again more than once. He'll be able to give you a nice run through on how to do it.

Thought i would post what New man told me, and agian thanks Newman {hope ya dont mind}
"For *my version*, what you have to do is simply pull back the wires from the front handguard and just slip them around the left side of the mechbox (looking from the back) right underneath where the cylinder would be. Just push it tight to the mechbox. Take off the stock by pulling the clasp downward, instead of upward, and yank it off. Pull off the little "spacer" inbetween the receiver and the buffer tube.
You'll need to drill a hole right below where the stock tube comes out of the receiver. Take off the connectors on the battery wires (that you pulled backwards) and push the wires through the hole. Reconnect the connectors to the battery wires. If you can close the mechbox now, with the wires coming out to the front of the mechbox and looping around the side and out the hole in the back, then you're in good shape. You might have to take off the "bolt close" button (which does nothing) to get the wires to fit, though. Use a battery bag or just tape the battery to the stock, then connect the wires to the battery, and voila, done.
It's complicated and took me a while to figure out, but it all works out in the end. It's not the prettiest, but hell, I never do anything pretty, just useful." Newman
