Talked to a person at Airsoft Arms today about changing the inner barrel on my M4 today. I'm switching it over to a G&G SD/rail kit. Was planning on getting a short inner barrel since the stock barrel would fit clear out to the end of the silencer. He basically told me that the silencer would provide little to no actual silencing and that eventually the foam inside would break loose and cause me problems. He advised me to stick with a barrel that fits nearly to the end of the silencer.
Anyone like to share their opinions/experience on silencers?

I'd stick with your stock barrel. As far as i've seen, silencers dont make *too* much of a difference in the field. The added accuracy of a longer barrel would, I believe. At the distances that airsoft is centered around, I can hear my brother's SD5 firing, and Trauby's silenced P90. The silencer is more for the look, to me, than for the actual function.
As for the foam, I'm not sure if that's true or not. I don't see how it would be, considering you're getting just as much action, if not more, with it being "free" (not blocked by the inner barrel). But, I don't have any experience in that area, so take my opinion with a grain of salt ;p
Something else to consider : Remember that if you stick with the stock barrel, you wont be able to use the gun w/out the silencer. You could, but having your inner barrel sticking out like that would look wrong and potentially be easily damaged.
