I've heard from a guy who works at a nearby paintball store (which sells airsoft, of course) that most AEGs burn out after about two months, rendering them pretty much broken until you replace the electronics or something to that effect. Is that true? Do AEGs really "burn out" after a few months? I don't want to get an AEG only to replace the parts after a few months. If this happens only on certain guns, please tell me which ones to avoid! Thanks.

Not true, he probably doesn't know much about airsoft.

I've used my gun heavily for well over a year now and it hasn't "burned out." My loaner AEG has also been running strong for about 8 months with no signs of slowing down. So no, that guy is full of shit.

full of shit.
almost 2 years with my G3 now. no 'burning out'.
don't listen to paintballers. it's kind of like talking to liberals about firearms.

what paintball store was this? He probably told u this just to make airsoft guns seem like crap and unrealiable. Unfortantley, many paintballers see airsoft as a joke.

As everyone said, no AEG's don't burn out. But keep in mind almost if not everyone here and everywhere else that is serious about airsoft is using one companies guns. Tokyo Marui, there are some others, like Classic Army, ICS, and so on. But If you get a TM gun you will likly get allot of use out of it before anything "burns out". Also just to add, AEG's aren't that mysterious, they have their roots in RC cars. So you got a battery, motor, gears, then the airsoft specific stuff. That doesn't leave a whole ton to go wrong, granted things will break, it's just how long a year? Two? It's not something you need to worry about right away. Get a Tokyo Marui gun, any series and you should be good. Don't upgrade it internally and just get used to it, then make the gun of your dreams. But get a TM first.

Okay, that's great. I know you guys think the guy was lying to me, but I actually believed him, given the fact that he has been playing airsoft for 4 years Bleh. Now to decide, is a Maruzen GBB MP5k gonna get a whole lot more maintainance than a TM MP5k AEG? Or rather, if something DOES go wrong with the gun, do gas guns usually take more work to fix/screw up more often than AEGs? And yes, the final question! (Yeah, just ONE more...) Do AEGs give a decent report or do they just go >thud< >thud< >thud< >thud< like tapping your finger on a desk? THERE's a few more questions, hehe ;D

want a good example of an AEG? get a drill.. squeeze trigger for a quarter second.
and yes, Gas guns are more prone to failure and require more maintenance then AEG's do.
Gas guns have the 'sweet!' factor. AEG's have the badass factor. Gas guns are useful toys, whereas AEG's are the heavy hitters.
sure, people use gas primary weapons... but 90% of people who've played a while use an AEG primary and a gas sidearm. it's a shit-has-hit-the-fan-and-i've-run-out-of-ammo-oh-shit!-grab-the-sidearm-quickly type weapon. ;D
