So, my MP5 doesn't like to feed correctly. Description of the problem:
Put mag in, flip selector to semi, fire. One bb. Fire again, nothing, muffled "pop" from the barrel. Fire again, another pop. Pull mag out, check feed tube, bb is in the chamber. Fire again (without the mag in), bb fires like normal. Slap mag back in, fires normal for a few rounds, then repeats the problem. I can clear the chamber and get it to fire again by turning the gun upside down and firing. Same thing happens on FA, except that it occurs much less frequently, usually only if I fire, then wait 10+ secs before firing again. Firing several small bursts back-to-back proceeds as normal, no feed issues. I could empty a full hicap in one burst, but if I shoot, then, for example, move to a different cover spot, and try to shoot some more, the gun "jams".
I know the hop-up isn't set too high, the problem can be duplicated with the hop completely disnegaged. The only thing that's been done to the gun since I bought it was installation of a Systema inner barrel. It's been oiled (yes, with the right oil, and no, not too much oil), and generall well-maintained. I've only got about 5000 rounds through the gun. The problem manifests with all my mags, TM standards/hicaps, and the new G&P midcaps (much less frequently with the G&P's, oddly enough). The mags have all been lubed also, just as a precaution, no improvement. I don't think it's a mag problem.
Just dry-fired the gun (yeah, I know it's bad) without a mag in a few times. It looks like the piston/whatever piece you can see through the loading tube isn't stopping in the same place every time. Sometimes it stops in a full-forward (i.e. covering the feed hole) position, other times it's either partway or all the way back (the feed hole is clear).
Anyhow, enough of lengthy descriptions and my own thoughts on the problem...anyone have any ideas about what might be wrong, and how to fix it (I'd rather not break open the gearbox if I don't have to)? Been looking forward to Op. Firebrand for a long time now...but if my gun's not working properly, I may have to bow out.
