holy crap....
so, i got this AUG in a trade, right? came to my house, no damage to the box. i open it up and the dissasembly button was pushed out, so the upper and barrel assembly slide off, field-strip style
i think to myself "no problemo, i'll just slide it back on and put the metal bar back in!"
well, i know jack about AUG's, since all i have handled is the M3 and the Mp5.
i need help getting the assembly back on. i currently have the upper receiver and outer barrel sitting here, and i can get those apart and everything. then i have the inner barrel sitting here as well... but its just the barrel, hopup bucking, and some C ring clamped on
even without the inner and outer barrels, the upper receiver will not seat onto the lower to the point where i can get it to lock on. just like 1-2cm out of alignment
i looked at the manual online, and im just seeing rods all over the place, and the fact that its in japanese (obviously) does not help
so, here is where you come in! i'd like you to tell me what exactly is wrong... did the hopup chamber break off? or did something just slip out of place?
am i screwed until i can get someone to physically fix this thing (*cough* Hado!!! *cough*)
thanks for any help

First of all, why the heck isn't that inner barrel screwed/secured into the outter barrel? There should be two tiny screws that go in through the rear portion of the outter barrel that secure the whole inner barrel + hop up on to the whole thing. Hopefully the gun came with those screws, so be sure to look around. *crossing fingers* That's probably what's giving you trouble as the spring (you have the spring right??) won't stay compressed enough to have the barrel lock into place. that pic shows the two screws I'm talking about, and the spring that slides over the inner barrel before being inserted into the outter barrel. ^ everything secured nice and purdy like. When that's all good and done just slide in the upper receiver into the body, and lock it in place. Lock the cocking handle back Then slide the barrel in at a slight angle while pushing down on the barrel release lever. Once inside just give it a slight twist so that the barrel/ folding grip is at 90 degrees with the body again and let go of the barrel release lever locking it in place. Finally put the cocking handle back into position and hey presto...she's complete again. Does any of that make sense? *crossing fingers*

i see what you're saying
looks like my hopup unit snapped off the barrel assembly... or the screws came out
no clue on the spring though...
i'm not too sure i want to start taking apart the lower receiver though, the trigger, mag release and other things sound like they will give me a run for my money
edit: just checked. the collar that the 2 screws and the spring are on is on the outer barrel, but i guess the hopup unit is still on the gearbox
so i think the barrel is just being stopped on the hopup unit. so then, i need to get my huge hand all the way down and unhook the hopup is all, then re-secure it to the barrel asembly.... i think
edit 2: took out the 2 srews... good thing i had my finger over the hole, the spring and a little black collar with 2 holes (for the screws?) popped out.
edit 3: i opened the 2 side covers with hte chargin handle and rotated the hopup unit to the point where it would fall out. it broke off just rear of where that 2 screw area is
thanks for the help, hado

Hopefully you can get things working again.
Did the seller you bought the gun from mention it had any problems? If not, you should tell him about the problems and broken parts and have him either offer to buy replacement parts or at least have him send over a few $ to cover repairs.

he'll either try to make a claim with fed-ex or send over a few bucks. other ways, he doesnt get his $275 for sending me a broken gun (or something, like just $245 for parts cost)

At least you're lucky that there have just recently been a couple of replacement AUG hop units released onto the market. Before it was pretty much impossible to replace the hop-up unit without major hassle. Plus, now you can get one and review it for us other AUG owners.

I'm not sure I'd be the best candidate for the review...
I'm also having trouble tracking one down in the US. I was thinking of just getting a metal hopup unit from WGC for an extra $5.50 over the Marui standard, but if I can buy small parts domestically, I'd rather do that
I'll shoot Combat Depot and WTS each an email

okie doke, i got a new hopup unit in the mail today.
i think i've got it pretty much figured out, except for two parts
1. where does the silver ring go? its embedded in my old unit, but its seperate in the new one. is it just a spacer for the spring?
2. what is the purpose of that little clip that goes on the underside, forward of the feed hole? (just left of "St-44" in the pic hado posted)
how i hope i dont smash this one, and i hope to finally have a working gun!
thanks

I think I can help you out with teh "little clip". If I remeber right....when I took my M16 hop-up apart it had the little clip on it and I THINK there is a very small notch or something in the barrel that when the clip is put on correctly it keep the hop-up unit on. I don't know about the AUG hop-up but the M16 one is hard to put on the barrel if you haven't done it before
hope that helps a little

clip locks the hopup unit in place via notches in the barrel.
