Anyone have any experience with NiMH batteries?
My friend got one on accident in his order. They sent it instead of a NiCad. We thought that was a cool deal since it's rated for 400 mAh more than the NiCad. From my understanding they don't need to be discharged since they don't have a memory like a NiCad.
It came with a charge and he's shot a few hundred rounds with it. Tried to charge it with my quick charger (which IS rated to charge NiMH batteries) and it won't stay on quick charge. It will start a quick charge for about 10 seconds and it switches back to trickle. Tried different amp levels from .5 to 3 and it does the same thing. Discharging doesn't seem to do anything either. We left it discharging for over 20 min and still got the same result. I was starting to wonder if the thing was barely dead, but it's cycling the gun pretty slow now. What in the h are we doing wrong?

Perhaps that particular battery does not fast charge?
Perhaps that charger does not fast charge NiMH?
My particular experience with NiMH batteries was beyond negative, because the 8.4V1100mAh battery could not even power my stock ICS MP5SD6 for more than a shot or two, fully charged.
However, I do believe that the technology has improved significantly since then, and they are probably as good or better now than NiCad in many ways.
Perhaps your charging technology just didn't catch up?

Thanks for the responses Newman!
Might be that the particular battery doesn't fast charge?
Reasonably sure it's not the charger since there is a "highlighted" bar around the Amp dial going from .5 to 3 marked NiMH. Think it is relatively new technology too, but I'm no expert. Computerized controlled, "Advanced fuzzy logic peak detection" blah, blah, blah. IntelliPeak Pulse Charger purchased from Airsoft Arms.

I've got the 5 hour charger from Radio Shack and it charges my 8.4v 3000mah battery just fine. This battery has gone straight for two different sessions like a champ so far, and I'm a heavy shooter, so...

Where did you buy your battery, Jacko? I have seen 8.4V 3000mAh NiMh batteries on eBay for like 30 bucks with a charger.

Well, it got discharged a bit more last night. Now it is taking a fast charge. I don't get it. Must have to be fairly discharged before it will take a fast charge or something.
