I was looking at the airsoftplayers.com forums and I saw someone say that they bought a mount from airsplat and just mounted it to the carbine of their M4. I was curious about this. Would it look odd on an MP5 SD5 with the normal cover over the handle?

most likely
they do make an RIS set that clamps around the silencer can to let you mount a flash light and a laser

Yea but the comparison is $10 for the one mount versus $70 for the replacement grip with mounts on it.

I've explored some RIS options for my SD5...which made me decide I'll prolly just use my M93R for CQB stuff till I can afford a 3rd AEG (the second will be a G3 or Sig SG 550 ). Just bolting a rail onto the foregrip would be flat out oogly, IMO. If you just want a light or laser (one or the other - not both), First Factory makes a mount that goes over the base of the front sight post...and looks like it'd look nice on a gun. If you want a vertical grip, you're pretty much SOL, unless you buy an a-series front end, and a silencer to keep the SD look. Link to a pic of the FF laser/light mount, courtesy of UN Company: www.uncompany.com/images/ff-mp5lasermount_big.jpg ...CA also makes a similar mount, but it doesn't have the leet looking heat shield. Rustspot isn't talking about an entirely new grip...it's more like a set of RIS rails mounted on a hose-clamp that fits around a silencer...I'll see if I can dig up an example. I'm buying a real-steel mount for my sd6, it allows you to attach a laser and light to the silencer.
