I just bought a MP5K AEG, and it came with what I think is a hicap mag, or std MP5 mag. The problem is I fill the mag to a certain point, about 20-30 bbs, try to fire, only nothing comes out. Am I doing something wrong, or is the mag broke?

If it is a hi-cap mag {were u wind it at the bottem} if you dont put enough bbs in than it wont work because there are not enough bbs to feed up through the winding machagnism, this to the best of knowledge {because it happens on my M-16 mag, and my firends SG-1 mags} is normal for Hi-caps. if it is not a hicap then i dont know what to say.

the mag may be broken now
When you fill a hicap, you open the reservoir on the top of the mag and pour bbs into it (about 200 in your case) and wind them up into the feeding tube. Wind the mag until you hear a repetative click noise that differs from what it sounds like when you first start to wind it. Do NOT jam the bbs down feed tube, that breaks the internal mechanism.

It's a hicap. I've put around 20-25 bbs in it, wound it up, and can't put anymore in. I've unwound it, wound it first, put bbs in, and it stops at the same amount each time. I've talked to the person I bought it from, and he has no idea whats wrong with it at the moment.

you ARE opening the door...then pouring in a good amount of BBs, right? takes around 30 or so to get the pressure required to push them through the feed tube.
as JDL said...loading them via the feed tube will kill your hicap. load the hicap via the door on top of the magazine, then wind.
another thing to try... load your hicap....put a good ammount of rounds into it...then press in the spring loaded wedge on the side of the tube.
if BB's come flying out, you have a working hicap. if not, your hicap is busted.
if BBs come flying out, i'd suspect that something like the tappet plate/nozzle combination are to blame.
