Since we brought this up in other posts I decided to open it up to everyone. To save myself some time, try the manufacturers website: www.simunition.com/Simunitions is a cross between airsoft and paintball. Real steel guns modified where they can't fire live ammo and instead shoot "FX" (paint) cartriges. The veloctiy is higher than normal airgaming so a crotch and neck protector is usually mandatory. I have a lot of pictures of Simunition weapons, gear, and action you can just e-mail me for them. I have been interested in them for some time and have tried to register myself as a bail agent to become available to purchase them. Maybe in the not-to-distant future a few of the MiA guys could invest in some responcible testing of Simunitions weaponry?

Oh c'mon man there's no need to go to this extreme of milsim, unless of course you're armed services or law enforcement. Are you not happy with airsoft or paintball? Do you need to get shot by something that is just a tad short of a real firearm? Is there a money tree in your backyard? Ed, I must say I don't get the validity of this idea for the "regular guy" or for most of the target audience here on this forum.
First off, everything I've read states exactly what Newman relayed in the other post on this subject and as you confirmed........these buggers hurt - A LOT! They can & will cause damage to soft tissue. There are many more vital and tender areas other than the neck & package to want to cover up. This is not just a cross btwn. airsoft & paintball, this is a notch above both. I know LEO's that even dislike working with this stuff.
As you stated, you have to modify real steel to use simunition. Some of the mods are difficult (or a pain in the ars, depends on the gun) to reverse. So first you have to go thru all the hell of purchasing & owning real steel firearms and WILL have to adhere to every law pertaining to them, regardless of what comes out the barrel. Purchasing real steel & carrying real steel is difficult (I know from experience), and the penalties for not adhering to applicable laws are very stiff and pretty unwavering. All this to turn a perfectly fine real steel into a higher-powered paintball marker? Have you checked the prices on real steel lately? I know my pocketbook has. Makes no sense, none whatsoever. Why not just put the $$ into airsoft?
Also, these are usually used in very tightly controlled environs. Heaven forbid if an unmodified gun with live rounds finds its way into the mix. Where are you going to play where the sound is not going to bring attn. to your activities?
Sorry, I just don't see the benefit or enjoyment gained from this venture, unless of course you are in the armed forces or law enforcement. Rather than just go the bail bonds route, if you are this serious about training for real encounters, why not just apply your skills and desires to a career in the military or law enforcement?
<yes, some of this copied from one of my earlier replies in another thread>

first off...most of those mods are for real steel high powered rifles...that would each run into the thousands of dollars...even for the semi-auto versions... then for pistols... even a relitively cheap 450 dollar glock...you need a handgun liscense....
how do you think someone would react to real gunshots over the hill? especially 20 or 30 in rapid sucession?

I don't think you guys get the idea. Yes, its expensive ($450 for a Browning Hi-Power and $250 for the conversion kit), yes it's going to hurt, and yes we would have to play on a very safe and controlled evironment (it's not like I would break these things out in my back yard or something). But it's the advantages that I'm concentrating on.
The reason I went into airsoft was because paintball wasn't realistic enough. I still play pb, but not as much. I will still play airsoft hopefully for the rest of my life. I think simunitions might be something I will dabble in when I am older and have the money. I don't know why, but something about them intruiges me.
Some people in this world would never even imagine to play airgames. Some people in PB will never play airsoft, and most of the airsofters will never be crazy enough to engage in this sort of thing.
I am not interested in using Simunitions in the same types of games that are played in airsoft. I am interested in using them for more training-oriented practices. Situations where I would both learn and have fun.
Don't get me wrong, everything you guys have said is right, but I am still interested in taking the next step up.
