I read a thread about the energy of different bb's in a gas rifle. It seems the heavier the bb the more power. it goes like this. 430fps with .3gm @ 2.58 Joules
405fps with .36gm @ 2.74 Joules
400fps with .43gm @ 3.20 Joules
What would have the best range?

Joules is impact strength. SO obviously the ? is "Would I rather be hit with a tennis ball or a bowling ball"

At those speeds, wind resistance is a huge factor in how fast the bb goes, thats why the less weighted bbs don't go significantly faster, the same power is being forced on all of the bbs (law of conservation of energy: when the gun shoots, the spring can't magically push the plunger harder creating one more joule of energy than there was the first time it was shot), but with the heavier bbs, they can maintain a faster speed longer, because of their inertia, and less weighty bbs of course are easier to speed up, having slightly higher fps at first, but slowing down at faster rates than the heavier bbs. Anyways, the heavier weighted bbs will definitely go further. Just so you know, that calculation of energy in joules, does not take in effect certain wind resistance factors (where energy is lost from friction with the air) causing it to be innaccurate for different weighted bbs, they are only supposed to be rough estimates so you can see sort of, how powerful your gun is.

I'm not sure but I think you were trying to say that the bb's couldn't effect the Joules? If so, I think that with gas guns it would be different, the whole gas expanding thing, heavier slower bb's getting a better change to grab more energy on the way out of the barrel. If you wern't trying to say that, then ok.
Thanks for the info.

Gas, electric or springer, they all cause gases to propel the bb
