'xactly why I want an accurized barrel, Minky. With Ryan's limited funds (at this time), I'd recommend him buying an $50 or so barrel and seeing an increase in accuracy (Minky, your AUG's barrel is SO much longer than Ryan's P90 barrel, they must have a different effect), and later on getting an upgrade ($20 for spring, $15 for bushings, $40-80 for battery).

The barrel will have different results... mainly because his is shorter and he won't see much of an observable accuracy increase, most likely! I'd see how much a Systema barrel would cost from airsofttoys.com . When I special ordered mine it came out to be something like $35.... much better priced than a TN barrel.

That is exactly why I haven't bothered to get any type of tight bore barrel for my MC-51. It's pretty short anyway. Im just going with the upgraded internals and leaving it at that.
Now, in September when I get my G3A3, most definately a tight bore barrel for that beast, along with matching internals to my MC-51.
The length of the barrel alone makes it worth it.

Silent,
The barrel on an AK is so long that it could only benefit from an accurized barrel. As for springs. Go with the PDI 150% spring. My friend got the M120 and I tell you, it will suck a battery dry in one hi-cap mag. You will probably be better off with the slightly lighter spring. Besides, the M120 will push you over the fps limits your group is using now.
As for other stuff, systema flat gears, bushings, piston head, cylinder, etc... just read what myself, newman, and Minky have been talking about. internals are internals, just because I have a MC-51 and you have an AK, the principles are the same.

I'm going to be the only one with a 140% Hehe. Really though, it always bugs me to see the newer players wanting to upgrade guns right away. I don't worry about you Vitalis, since you're old enough to know better, I have nothing else to say. I would say that at all of the games Viking has hosted so far, stock AEGs have outnumbered upgraded ones, and at the distances we're used to playing the stock guns have performed very well. I didn't mean to imply that a PDI 150% should be the upgrade everyone gets when I mentioned it in my earlier post. In fact, I'd hesitate to have everyone chucking them in their guns until we get some actual chrono data from some guns that have them installed. With my "low" 140% I've got nothing to complain about in terms of what I gained, so you people thinking of upgrading might consider going with something less than a 150%. Both of my 8.4v batteries (600mah and 1500mah) power my 140% just fine, so by dropping your spring choice by just a few notches you might end up being able to get great gains in performance while still being able to use your existing batteries. You also get a little less wear and tear on your mechbox too, which is always a plus.

There's really no way to prevent any gun from breaking, stock or otherwise. If you're worried about durability, the last thing you should do is upgrade anything. As soon as you crack open that mechbox, you're introducing variables that weren't present before, and even with all the upgrades you could dream of there's no guarantee that you won't break something the first time you try to shoot.
That being said, there are certain things you can do to delay the inevitable gearbox meltdown. The absolute minimum when upgrading the spring is to add metal bushings, to replace the stock plastic ones by TM. This should add a bit of durability, but as you go up in spring power you also need to change out more stock parts for stronger ones. With an M100 or PDI 150%, you should be ok for a while with just the spring and bushings. You can get regular ratio gears from Systema as a bit more insurance, as well as adding a bearing to the spring with a piston head or spring guide. The idea with the bearing is to allow the spring to rotate freely as it moves, so as to relieve it of some stress.
As you go up in spring power to M120/PDI 170% and above, you pretty much need to get torque up gears as well as upgrading as many other parts as you can afford to in order to handle to higher stress levels from these springs.

""Old enough to know better"" hahahahhahaha, I may be about to turn 33, but my friends still think I'm a big 2 year old. About the springs, M100 will prolly do fine too Silent, that is what I was going to go with at first till I finally decided on the PDI150%... I'm used to shooting the real steel quite a bit, and I want to put some more zip into my airsoft gun. But I am getting more used to the power of the stock spring every time we have a practice. And Minky, I hope you didn't think I was putting words into your mouth, if ya did, I appologize. Ok, all this upgrading talk is movig my plans ahead. I think I am going to shoot for next week to send the MC out for upgrades. I have several medieval events this month anyway and won't be using the weapon. I hope Vitalis

Hi everyone,
Vitalis has been giving us grief for not posting here so I figured I would stop by and say hi.
I've been doing some chrono testing with an upgraded AK (M120 spring, metal bushings) vs a stock ak I recently purchased from Mike at WTS.
I thought you might like to know how it's going so far.

Hi everyone, I'm one of Vitalis teammate's he's been giving us grief for not posting here so I figured I would stop by and say hi. I've been doing some chrono testing with an upgraded AK-47 (M120 spring, metal bushings) vs a stock ak-47 I recently purchased from Mike at WTS. I thought you might like to know how it's going so far. WEAPON BB's .20 .23 .25 AK-U (Upgraded) 420 390 378 AK-S (Stock) 280 267 234 The above numbers are average FPS using 10 shots per BB weight. This is muzzle velocity, meaning I measured with the muzzle of the weapon resting over the chrono. I am going to do another test using a 5' distance and a 10' distance. I used a ProChrono pal from Competition Electronics, Inc. Probably not the most accurate, but I'm too cheap to buy a radar chrono. Hope this helps, and hello again.

Sorry about the double post, keyboard slip.
Hehehehe, Vitalis I am going to convert it to our squad RPK. But want to figure out exactly what upgrades are going to be ok to keep the fps in line.

Well,
We can stick with the 150% spring formula we have been discussing here. I'm getting my gun upgraded hopefully next week, so we will be able to chrono it and see how it turns out.
Are you going to get the big RPK kit from Great Britian? Barrel extension, new foregrip and all that?
Heh Mr. Moneybags...? heheheehehe
Oh, and Rane has already picked out the upgrade she wants for the M4 when she gets it. She wants the new Sun Project M203 with the 140 round gas powered shells... hehehe, we will have our Grenadier....
Anyway, look at the top of the page and check your Private Messages here...
