Yes im lookin for some people that are into airsoft that live near Shelby Twp.(about 45 min. away from detroit. Reply if u even know where that is or if u live near there. My friend is considerong buying a gun but is unsure about it. He thinks these guns look so real that other people will shoot real bullets at us if we play. Im like yea thats wat the orange tips are for. He just says its risky. He called the cops up and said if airsoft is legal in shelby twp. They said yea sure but that doesnt mean its safe. They said its best to play on private property so no one calls the cops on u. Wat do we do and how can i convince him to just chill and play airsoft.

Play on your own private property and get police permission allong with permission from any neighbors. Your friend does have a point as I myself was at a game raided by police and all of us there came very close to getting killed. The orange does help but a cop can't see it at 11:30 at night.

Yeah I was there too and I'll quote Bigmack: "An orange barrel, doesnt to much for a cop when he's 100 yards down a dark hallway, all he'll see is a shouldered rifle." or something along those lines. But just show your friend how popular and safe the sport is by taking him to different forums like this one, or www.airsoftretreat.com www.airsoftplayers.com www.airsofzone.com etc. My friends and I have our own airsoft group in Grosse Pointe (a suburb of Detroit). Heres the link: www.sickpointe.tripod.com We play in my back yard but are expanding to the indoor section of Lone Wolf Paintball in Detroit.

A police officer (or more than one as has happened before) is a legitimate concern. And the guns are pretty much indistinguishable from the real guns at any kind of longer distance, orange or not. All games sponsored by SEMTEX are held in Vikin's neughbors property back in the woods, which is pretty much in his back yard. All games hosted by FLAG are played in Newman's naighboor's property, WAY back into some woods. There really aren't any areana's for airsoft like there are for paintball, although some paintball places are allowing people to play airsoft. You must play on private land not visible from pretty much any direction. Let anybody near by know. If you'r hosting major events in big areas, let the police know, especially if it's in a city. Now, you're 45 minutes from detroit, but in which direction? North? South? West? Canada? FLAG is about 45 minutes to an hour west of Detroit. We play in Saline and a few of our members are from Ann Arbor. If you ever want to come to a game, sign up on our forum and ask, we're always looking for more people to play with. newman.proboards4.com/

I'm probably just a few minutes from you. Also, some members of Team Draconis live in Roseville, which is also relatively close.
The advise posted so far is right on. Treat the airsoft gun as one would treat a real firearm. Airsoft not only looks real, but there is also the chance of really injuring yourself or someone else if you're not careful. If you know the four basic (most important) rules of handling a firearm and treat the airsoft as such you should be ok. If you don't know them I can loan you a book which could be very beneficial for you.
One final note about safety, when you travel with your airsoft you might want to seriously consider putting it (them) in a real gun travel case (maybe even locked) and keep the ammo separate from the gun. You also might want to put the original orange tipped barrel/flash hider/slide back on the gun. That way, if you are stopped by a police officer he will feel slightly less threatened when he notices the case. And, if he searches through your stuff he will realize that you are treating this replica toy with the serious respect and care that it deserves. Who knows, he/she might even be curious enough to join a game if he/she knows that responsible individuals are playing it.

All of the above posts give great info. I'd just like to stress something about the orange tips. My father is a retired State Trooper. One of his partners who is still an active trooper stopped by one day when I was out at the house and I showed him an airsoft pistol. I asked him what he thought, and I quote " Orange tip or no, Id shoot you first then figure out if it was a toy." This is basicly my fathers take on the whole thing too. Don't think that the orange tip will save you if something does come up.
Treat any airsoft gun as if it were the real thing. What you wouldn't do with a real gun don't do with a replicia. Don't even think of them as a toy and you should be ok. Definately keep them in a case in the trunk when you are going to and from an event. A little bit of common sense can save hours and hours of trying to explain things to some really pissed off cops.

For you guys who host events, the best piece of advice I can give you is to post signs. Have a sign up every couple hundred feet around the perimeter of your playing field that says something like 'Caution, AirSoft Zone DO NOT ENTER'. That way, you really shouldn't have any civilians OR police just walking into the playing field.
And if they do, sue them. ;D

Signs, Signs , everywhere signs......Exactly what we did, and we had a pre game briefing for all players concerning NON-Players and what to do if we encountered them (it included setting your gun down as not to frighten them, because if the person thought it was a real gun, they could press charges of "brandishing a weapon", whether or not it was on YOUR property and THEY were trespassing!! ) AND....... I called the Muskegon County Sheriff's Dept and talked to the Watch commander and informed him of the game and its location, as well as my contact info. HE was Elated that we would call and just couldn't say enough good about how smart that was and how he appreciated my call, etc, etc, yada yada.... So that little phone call goes a long way too.....

dude, its happened to just about everybody. If you treat the guns as if they were real and make sure everyone knows about them, theb you can get through without any problems and not have to worry about a thing derick
