Hello,
I'm just starting into airsoft and was very pleased to find a Michigan chapter. I have a question - if you had to buy a TM SPAS 12 or a TM FA-MASsv, what would you get?

[glow=black,2,300] I'm technically still an Airsoft Padawan, but I know enough about AEGs to tell you that the FAMAS series are retarded . They have lots of problems and not much oomph... pretty much Lance (The Ice Cream Man) in airsoft gun form. I have heard that the SPAS are not that great. If you like shotguns look into TM benelli. I don't know much else about Shottys, but I do know that TM makes everything MMM MMM Good... Besides EBB's which are AEG's with downs syndrome. Once again, Lance in airsoft gun form. If your looking for a solid AEG, like I said, get TM. Most of them shoot the same but there are a few that aren't really worth bothering with. If I were you, which I am obviously not, I would save up and make an investment in a serious AEG. Its only going to cost slightly more but the differnce between a nice TM AEG and a craptastic meijer brand type of thing is astounding. Check some of the retailers with online stores... OR go to Wolverine Tactical Supply and see them for yourself. *waits to collect from the plug* ;D There are many Chapters in Michigan (do we call them chapters? I feel like the KKK or something.) It all depends where you live. I'm in SOCOM (I think) which is based near Holland. Hopefully I helped [/glow]

also if your ordering a gun from oversea dealers make sure that u get it cleared thrugh customs (customs will conphinscate your gun if you dont have the following: told to me by:jdl_9th so give him credit for this part: there is a risk of it being seized by customs if you don't have the trademarks fully covered with putty (not tape) and the barrel painted orange. specifically ask your selected retailer to cover all trademarks on the gun with putty and to remove trademarks from the box and manuals. Also ask them to paint the barrel orange. specify the color number as color # 12189 or "brighter". if both are done, then it will pass throught customs. Airsoft guns are legal to import (and it's really the only way to get them, either you import it, or a us based retailer imports it) as long as there are no trades and the barrel is orange. as a side note, go to www.airsoftplayers.com and check out their retailer rating section to see how your selected retailer stacks up against the rest. it might change your mind about ordering from them, or reinforce that good feeling you have.

Hi EE! If you're strapped for cash and don't want to invest in all the peripherals of an AEG (Charger, discharger, battery, magazines, sling, optics, etc etc) I heartily recommend the Tokyo Marui Benelli M3 Shorty. I had a chance to fire this thing at Operation: White Thunder and it really spits the BB's out far. A nice spread at a decent range. Together with a pack of shells, it shouldn't cost you more than $200, which should give you something like 40 shots before you've got to reload your shells.

Yeh I knew, I thought it was horrible tho, that you have to pump once for each bb and then when you fired they all went sequentially shorter distances.

no...that's the Zida Spas-12. the TM Spas-12 has similar performance to an M3 shortie.

Greek, thanks for the credit, but i ripped that off of a few people from various other forums. pretty much all info spewed on airsoft forums is repeat info, so really, no credit necassary, but thanks, though . Elite, AS Lastrade said, he is an "airsoft padawan", which is why i believe he has his facts a little messed up. The Tokyo Marui FAMAS doesn't have any serious problems. it has no more or less than any other TM AEG. All will have a few slight problems, but they are all easily fixable for a very resonable amount of money. mags tend to be expensive compared to other AEG mags, mostly because the FAMAS isn't really a big selling AEG, so not as many people buy them. i believe LaStrade crossed the quality of the TM FAMAS series with those of lesser companies, such as Y&P. Stay completely away from anything made by Y&P, whether it be a springer, gbb/nbb, or AEG. The same goes for Academy. They are low quality pieces of shit. An AEG will suit any player best in a skirmish situation, unless you're a sniper (not a very good newbie position anyway, so we won't worry about that). The full auto capabilities, and even semi auto capabilities give them a much bigger advantage. It's not to say that you can't compete with a quality shot gun or gbb, but you'll have to pick up a lot of skill, and mags to make it competitive. The most important thing is to get the gun that you want. The gun that you can see yourself hauling around for a few hours. Find a model, maybe you're an mp5 man, so you'll want to look into differen manufacturers of mp5's. But get the model gun that you want to have, otherwise it will be your second gun, or your third gun. You'll keep pining after the gun you really want, so why not get that first? As for brands, stick with TM for AEG's (this doesn't necassarily apply to gbb's, so don't be too worried if you want a specific model of pistol, and they don't make it). Classic Army (CA), Airsoft Elite (AE), and Integrated Crap shooter (ICS, i don't know what it really stands for ;D ) have had reliability problems in the past, and for the most part continue to have them now. They have a metal body, which seems inticing, but it's really not that great. The metal bodies tend to be made of fairly cheap pot metal, and don't look much better than the plastic on TM aegs. And remember, the durability of an aeg (considering that you don't smak it around a lot) will come from the gearbox, not the body itself. Save up atleast $350 to get yourself a good set up with an AEG, slightly less if you're going with teh FAMAS or mp5K, they tend to be less expensive. Just make sure that you buy enough mags, and get some proper eye protection. Sunglasses and shop goggles don't cut it.

I would not recommend Tokyo Hobby at all; the only foreign stores that I would ever consider buying from would be Wargamer's Club and Dentrinty Shop. Just search on Google and you'll find their websites. I would highly suggest purchasing your equipment from www.airsofttoys.com, www.airsoftextreme.com, or www.wolverinetactical.com (which is in Michigan, near Grand Rapids). Also, the *TM* FAMAS is a great gun, I gotta tell you. I've read nothing but great things about the gun, and the stuff about hard to upgrade or limited upgrades is crap. The thing can take an M120 easily. Why would anyone ever want anything over M120 in a AEG, anyway? Finally, you can actually take M16 mags and modify them to fit into the FAMAS, check it out at www.airsoftplayers.comGood luck, and if you live somewhat close to Ann Arbor, e-mail me at Newmanm4@comcast.net and we'll see if you could play with our group, FLAG.

As noted in a few other threads around here, I'd stay away from TokyoHobby, especially if you're making your first big purchase. Yes, the prices are great, but there have been numerous reports of people paying and never getting their stuff, or getting partial orders after long waits. The general opinion in the airsoft community is that you'd be better off purchasing from a respected retailer with a good reputation. If you're looking to order stateside, I'd heartily recommend MDairsoft.com . I recently made an order with them and just got my stuff today, and the whole process from start to finish was one of my best buying experiences so far. Some of their prices are even cheaper than overseas retailers! Speaking of oveseas retailers, yes there can be customs charges involved. This wasn't really a problem in the past, but customs has really been cracking down on airsoft lately, making sure imported guns comply with regulations. It's still pretty random in that if your package is never looked at, you won't be hit with any fees, but if they do check it out and it passes inspection the amount you pay will depend on the stated value of the items. Also, everything jdl said is right on. He might be a youngin but he is wise in the ways of airsoft.

The famas is proablly the best gun to start out with.
Cause its in-expensive large batt.
and it doesn't have many problems as lastrade says.
