Consequenses, Hmmm, let me see. If a cop were to see you walking around w/ a gun that looks real , the most likely response is that they are going to draw down on you(pull their guns on you). Most citys have ordinances banning carrying toy guns or any guns for that matter openly, I have removed the orange from my guns, but I would never walk down the street w/ one. If you are really curious about this call your local cop shop. About the last thing you want is to be at the business end of a real glock which is what most cops carry. Use common sense and you should be ok.

If ther are no nieghbors around, I would not worry too much, but the orange tip would help if the cops show up.
Hope that helps,
Mike

If he/she sees you playing they will tell you to put your guns on the ground and you better listen. They will either have their hand on their gun with the thumb break open or they will be pointing it at you. After you've put all of your guns on the ground and removed your mask/goggles, they ask you to approach them, their hand still on the gun. Once they see you're not a threat, they'll ask you a few questions, take a look at your guns, take down your names and tell you not to play in such an open area. That is if you're lucky. If you're not, it'll start out the same, but they'll be yelling and swearing and eventually take away your guns. of course if you point your gun at them or don't put it down when they tell you to, you will be shot and either dead, or in the hospital. Don't play where a cop or neighbor can see you, neither will like it.
[edit] mgr, i hope you're not serious about the orange tip "helping" if a cop shows up. do you think he won't hesitate to shot you because you have a little dab or orange on your gun? How easy would it be to paint a real gun orange, whether it be the barrel, or the whole thing? There have been reports of people painting the barrels of real guns orange so as not to arouse as much suspicion.

let me tell you from experience.... an A team was called in... that's a SWAT team for you non-savy types... (the call was canceled when the cops on scene realized what was happening)
8 cops came in, 6 with pistols drawn and on us, 2 with shotguns trained. we were told to lay face-down, drop our weapons, i was handcuffed for 'being a smartmouth', they took *some* of our names, took our guns, yelled at us a while, and kicked us free. meh.
stay the hell away from people. if there's any question of anyone seeing you, you let them know you're playing a game. cause all it takes is some 40 year old soccer mom to look out her window, and she'll be on the phone ranting and raving about the 'terrorists' in the acreage beyond her backyard.
the fact that terrorists have no good or sound reason to be there won't come to her... she'll just blow the thing out of scope... and then you've got 4-5 squad cars arriving on scene with weapons drawn.
now listen folks... there was a fellow killed just this last summer in Detroit for waving an airsoft gun at a cop. He was being chased down 94', ditched his car, and pointed a daisy airstrike rat-flail at officers. he was gunned down... remember...most cops can't tell the difference at 3 feet, let alone 30 yards... they're going to come at you like it's a hot weapon, and you're intending to use it.
also...don't count on orange tips to save you... half the guns that were taken were orange tipped. i can't remember who said it... but one of the players was like...
"But you can't take it! it's got an orange tip!" and the cop responded.... "Like i give a fuck."
this is why they can take that... for all the cop knows as he's coming at you...that's a real Glock 19, or M3, or SAR-1...with an orange tip.
that cop will wax you right then if he percieves a threat... he wants to return home and live his life... if he thinks you're pointing a rifle at him...you're done.

If thats the highway incident where the guy had the toy gun and the cop got shot also then I don't think it was airsoft. My dad's friend was in charge of this particular case. I asked him if he knew if it was an airsoft gun and he said no.

Ok, so, if they saw me and my friends, they would take our guns?

Yes. rob2328, it's an easy equation.
Cops != Pro Airsoft
Read Bigmack's post a few times and a few of the other posts about cops and airsoft weapons, and you'll notice that when it comes down to it, you're facing a very real and very dangerous situation with any police officer who sees you in full kit. I was being totally honest when I said a plausible consequence is being handcuffed. Bigmack has real experience with that, so heed his words.

not necassarily, but possibly. it depends on the cop, and the person who called them. If the person who called them said they think they saw some kids playing with what looks like real gun, then probably not. If they called them and said these men are running around a building with real guns, then probably.

Yeah, that is a good idea to let the neighbors know what we are doing, but the police can take our guns for no reason?

Well, this probably won't apply, but since 9/11, anyone can be put in jail indefinitely without a trial or lawyer and not told why. If a cop wants to take your weapons for no reason, he'll take them.
