To achieve a more modern AK 47/74 look to go with my modern Russian equipment I decided to paint my AK47’s grips black. It came out really nice; the only problem I don’t like about it is that the ugly TM mold lines show up even more. Before painting I should have taken some sand paper and putty to the thing but oh well. What I still have in mind for my ak are the following: - Internal Upgrades - Bi Pod (which I still haven’t gotten, hmm should have been here last week) - Current Issue Spetsnaz bayonet (for looks of course) - Metal body and front assembly (this will make the entire gun except the grips metal) - AK74 grips (sense I don’t know of any companies out there making a kit for these I might have to make them myself) - Grenade launcher (this will make it a true Spetsnaz weapon, if I can find a kit… if there is such a thing) Excuse the pictures as ye all know my camera is shitey for sum reason.

I know there is such a weapon for an AK, I just didn’t know they made an airsoft kit for it, thanks Blorfo.
My AK bi Pod came today, woohoo, ill take some pictures in the morning, I must say with the black grips the long flash hider and now the bi pod it kinda looks like it needs a scope. Blah no scope Viking, bad Viking! Scopes are for snipers!

Hehe@Wood-be-gone. That turned out a lot better than I thought it would Viking. I don't know why but when I hear of you wanting to do mods to your weapons I always think the worst things will happen. But in this case I think you've proved me wrong. The paint job looks smooth and silky, really makes that AK of yours look like a totally different gun. Great job! Now show me some pics of that bipod on it *whip*

From what I can see in the pictures, it has a nice matte texture. Me likes.

Yes, yes no gloss paints here, and a nice over coat of clear really helped with the matte impression. I am kind of weary on how this will hold up when used as a club against other players’ heads when I go into hand to hand but the type of paint I used I do not think scratches will be an issue. Or at least I hope not. Although, it being a total experimental paint who knows, maybe ill wake up in the morning and my grips will have been transformed into yuckie piles of goo.
Next I plan on painting the bolt/cocking leaver black, the silver still adds a hint of vintage to the gun, which I am trying to dispose of.

Wow I really like this bipod, both because it’s a real ak series bipod and that it goes very nicely with my black grips. Almost makes me want to put a long suppressor and some kind of optics on it. And after looking at that website Blorfo should me the AK doesn’t look half bad with optics. Hmm, anyway here are some pictures of the gun with the bipod on it. It basically functions just like a harness bipod. After going outside and firing my gun a little I now realize the potential of this bipod. Other full size AK users will agree with me that it’s not the most comfortable gun to go prone with, the long magazine being the fault for this. With the bipod I feel more natural on the ground then I do firing from one knee, woohoo for bipod! Oh and Minky will be happy because of the added weight to the front of the gun it doesn’t feel right “holding the gun by the magazine” so now I am forced to hold it more from the fore grip.

Viking that looks awesome! I want one! As for optics, that "website I showed you" has a lot of options, under the completely blatant "optical sights" section.

Great job Viking!! You'd never know that was just the stock fake wood furniture painted over; it looks very professional. Can't wait to see it in person....and run away with it after blinding you. ;D

Thanks, the only thing I really don’t like about it is the paint texture makes the grips feel more plastic like and hollow, where as they used to be quite convincing they might actually be wood. I would still like to replace them with some synthetic black grips some day but for now this will do. Next on agenda are internal upgrades, then metal body/front receiver, and then finally ill start looking into modifying real synthetic black AK grips onto the gun.
When discussing the look of the gun I too think it looks great, and it even looks better in person. I cant be any more happy with them for what they are. I am thinking that olive drab sling might need to go though, maybe some black 3pt tac sling or something should replace it.
