I have a Marui AK-47 with a version 3 mechbox. Anyway I deupgraded it by installing a weaker spring and had to disassemble the mexhbox and the gun in the process. The gun shoots about 1 out of every five times it should. The bbs only go about 10 feet at most. The current state of the gun is worse then a mini. If anyone has any advice I would really appretiate it.

Check to make sure your nozzle is seated correctly on the tappet plate, and that your gears are timed correctly. For the gears, the bevel gear should have the anti-reversal latch in place preventing the gears from rotating backwards, and the sector gear should have its post near the 1 o'clock position, near the tappet plate but without pushing it out of position. If you haven't already, read this: airsoftplayers.com/mechbox/tutorial.aspAlso check your nozzle to make sure it's not damaged, and make sure your barrel/hop-up is in place correctly.

grrr this is much harder then I thought I see why it didn't work. Anyway is the anti-reversal latch necessary or just kind of an extra because I can't figure out how to connect it.

You can consider everything that comes in the mechbox neccessary, I have nothing else to say! It keeps the gears from reversing direction, which I'm guessing would be a very bad thing... What can't you figure out about it? Look at this picture to get an idea of how it should fit in with the gears and mechbox shell: airsoftplayers.com/ak/ak6.jpgCheck out the other pictures of the AK47 manual to see if they offer any help as well. airsoftplayers.com/manuals.aspAnother thing I just though of that could be your problem, make sure you didn't lose the spring that goes on the tappet plate, which is also seen in that first link I gave. If that spring is gone your tappet plate won't move back and forth like it is supposed to, causing feed problems.

OK, I whipped up a little visual aid that might help. home.attbi.com/~e-sak/ak6.jpgGreen: Anti-reversal latch and how it should fit against the bevel gear. Also shows how the spring on the anti-reversal latch should be positioned. Blue: Sector gear and the position it should be in if properly timed. Note the post on the gear to the right of the tappet plate. Red: Tappet plate spring, and where it should be. Black: Nozzle (duh ). Make sure the notch that runs around the nozzle is meshed up with the tappet plate. Sorry if you already know lots of this, it's easier to just explain it all. Also make sure to check that the gears and piston don't have any stripped/missing teeth.

Don't feel like your talking to simple cuz I still am a little confused but the links help a lot. Thanks Minky.
Edit: I can see now why it wasn't working. Well kind of but I don't see why it only shoots full auto semi-auto doesn't seem to work.

newman had the same problem when he upgraded sting's ak, and he still can't figure it out. so far, the only way to get it to shoot semi is to put the selector switch all the way below the body of the gun and then bring it back up. taht will take care of it, but as soon as you switch up to full auto, it won't go to semi again.
Maybe newman will have a little insight on it. Or hopefully viking will come in with some. he's upgraded his ak, so maybe he can help you both out.

The selector plate is misaligned. I'm going to fix it tomorrow for Sting when he comes to play Airsoft with Voss and me...or at least try to. It's a very annoying piece to fiddle with, let me tell you.

*Sigh* I looked at my ak again today and I don't seem to be making much progress. I have read everything and it just doesn't seem to fire right. It still has the problem where only a few bbs shoot per each time it should and the bbs don't go very far at all.

Doh, that sucks. Double check your barrel, make sure it's aligned correctly and is meeting up with the nozzle correctly. If you can't get it working right, it might just be time to send it in for a tune-up.
