I think pistols are very useful. I played games with just my KSC G19 and i got people out (ammo, HotelSixActual) and they both have AEGs. Its how you use the pistol to make it effective or not.

Well one thing to note is, don't just get a GBB to play against AEG's. The main problem is ammo, and gas. You can get a bunch of mags, like lets say 5 in a glock 19, this will give you about 100 rounds. Which is quite a lot but when you think of say an M4, with a single highcap, thats 300 rounds. So Your gonna pay about the same amount for a GBB with enough mags to make due and you still won't have the firepower of an AEG. Just something to think about.

Sidearms are very useful if you know how to use them properly. (not how to load and fire ). If you know how to reload fast or unholster when reloading an AEG and become very acustomed to your sidearm it will do wonders, if you buy a flashing piece of crap you don't ever practice with...you wasted your money. Now if you have a 1200 rd Cmag, a sidearm may not be needed much but for any normal outfit of equipment a sidearm is a very good thing to have. Batteries die, ammo runs out, guns jam, guns explode....so then you have either a sidearm to rely on, or your armed with an ugly face and nothing else.

Thought I would just add, I have a friend in Alaska who only plays with 2 Glock 17's. He doesn't even own an AEG anymore. But regardless, you gotta be careful because if you get good with pistols you can be just as deadly. You will deffinatly learn to be sneaky by using them too.
I myself always keep a pistol with me just in case. I'm new to Michigan but in Alaska we always use wounding and damage rules. So if your AEG gets shot, you still have a pistol you can use.
Last, If you end up running up on an enemy and your only a few feet away...my experience is you better ask me to give up or use your pistol to shoot me. Pistols are good because they are safe for close combat and can be much more effective.

I wouldn't say a pistol is safer at close range. My MP5 (granted, it's got a stock gearbox) shoots 50fps or so less than my M93R.

Well yes, and MP5 in reality is a close quarters weapon. In that case and MP5 is just fine. But more often than not people have 450+ fps, am I right? An M9 using red gas I believe is supposed to shoot at 400fps. A stock MP5 runs at 280fps I do believe, but anyone who has played airsoft once knows that does no good for long range so it's typical to not have an AEG with a power that low. You maneuvering capability with a handgun though is much much better with CQB. And you know...it's always fun to run up and shoot someone in the rear with a pistol. ;D

Um. If you look at most anyone's rules, 450+ FPS guns are severely limited by minimum engagement rules. Most people run <400.
I've played Airsoft more than once, and I'm pretty darned sure that my MP5 works just fine at range. I play entirely in woodland areas, so if it didn't, I'd be hunting for a new weapon. My 280fps MP5 stacks up just fine against 350fps M4's...the difference really isn't that big.
Yes, pistols are just fine in CQB, primarily because there is no range issue. An aeg won't outrange a pistol in CQB, because, well, it's CQB. AEG's still have the advantage over the majority of pistols however, simply because most pistols are not full-auto capable.

Well, I have only played in Alaska. The site we played at was large and had a lot of open area. So most of the guns I played against were high power because everyone needed max range in the wide open areas. I don't know what kind of field you play on here in Michigan. My comments on pistols are solely from my Alaska experience. In wooded areas, I know it isn't the same aside from trying to shoot "through" trees (leaves and branches that is.)
Anyways...pistols are fun to have and I think they come in handy from time to time. I'll leave it at that.

If you use it as a sidearm to an AEG, then it'll prove usefull. You should use an electric pistol, though. If you use it as your primary weapon, you'll probably die.

I must say, pistols are great! I dont have a primary right now but ive played with it and had my pistol with me(tm socom) and if its a slight rain, or slightly windy to make a little noise then you put that silencer on it and you can peg people with it and they wont know where it came from, where an electric somone hears the noise and spray fire. The socom with the silencer sounds like a very low, quiet thump since its non blow back. But i would have to say i love my pistol

Yeah...let me be the first to say that I believe pistols are a waste for most of Airsoft. I never use them except to show off my cowboy draw.
