Alright, first off, i'm new to these forums, and figured..hey this is great way to get advice from others. Currently i've been into airsoft for 2 years, i bought a UTG ak-47 warhawk to use with friends. I don't play much but i'm looking into starting playing more often and with better equipment. My ak is still running great. but i'm thinking about increasing my arsenal a bit and getting myself a sniper.
My first question is, is that for 100 bucks is the UTG m324 worth it? i keep seeing advice to buy a better brand sniper because its more durable in the long run.
Second, what's out there...with my budget (buying this christmas break with money i earn) i want to keep the cost below 200 dollars.
So pretty much is it better to go with the UTG (i estimate 179 dollars with scope and bbs and shooting the 425fps) or should i get say a CA or TM (shooting like 280 fps but have the better durability so i can upgrade it int he long run when i come into more money?)
Pre-emptive thanks to all of you who reply to me.....i appreciate it

Just something to think about before you buy a sniper, are you really fit to fill the sniper role? No that wasn't a hit to you, it's just a lot of newcomers to airsoft try to become a sniper and just aren't fit for it. Not only does it take an extreme amount of patience, it also takes a lot of skill and excellent communication skills. Ask any of the snipers around here, i'm sure they will agree.
If you still decide to take on that role, i'd recommend getting something better than the UTG; however i'm not too familiar with sniper rifles so I can't give you any suggestions. Also, you might want to figure in the costs for a sidearm, which is a necessity for when your enemies get too close for you to safely shoot within engagement rules. A ghilli suit is also nice for a sniper, some might argue it's necessary. Be prepared to put a lot of money into your sniper, from what i've seen they can be a black hole for money.

My advice is to do a lot of research and get what you think is best for you. The UTG is a "ok" rifle but it will start to take a poop on you someday down the road, maybe sooner then expected or hoped.
When you get into sniping you need to realize that its very expensive to get into it and stay into it, to get your rifle shooting 550 FPS you are going to drop $100s of dollars into it if you are serious about your role and also things will break when your shooting that hot so that will run up the repair costs.
If you want to seriously get into sniping look at Maruzen or im sure Tex or Livonia will come across this thread and they can give you better advice as they are the "sniping experts" on the forums. I think there is a thread like this already so run a search and you might be able to find your answers that way as well.

Hey, thanks guys, yeah i'm totally aware at the whole expensive end of putting more and more into my gun. also, i think i'd be fit for the sniping role. mainly cause i tend to try and stay hidden as is, and even though my friends and i don't really play full gear etc yet. i'm always patient and i pretty much don't even use my ak-47 on auto..its like exclusively on semi. =)
Also, i feel that buying say a TM, CA, or Maruzen may be good for me, cause even though i'm on a lower budget now, i plan on staying with airsoft for many years...so if i spend a little more than i'd expected and get a durable gun now, later on i can spend on upgrades, rather than on a whole new gun cause my original broke.. thanks guys, it really helps getting advice from others with this.

Mmmk, so bear with me, being a dick for a couple sentences, advice will follow it. Please, please, please, start capitalizing your I's. Huge pet peeve. Also, please refer to the gun as a "sniper rifle" and the person as the "sniper". Also, before you ask any more questions, please, utilize the search function first, there are many threads about this. I'm kinda surprised that I am actually going to answer your questions, . The UTG is... bleh. Not a quality gun. It will break on you at a relatively fast pace. It's not worth the money if you are mildly serious about being a long range airsofter. The TM is not really a top choice, you will rarely see it upgraded fully. The CA M24, as well as the Maruzen APS2 or L96. Those 3 would be your best choice depending how you would like your rifle to look. They all have upgrades readily accessible and are pretty much the best choice.

Thanks Texas, I'm sorry about the lower case I thing...I have nothing else to say bad habit from typing on aim and to friends a lot. =P and sorry about not using the search function..I normally don't use forums for much and being new here didn't know there was a search button. but thanks for replying anyway.

Heh... you missed a capital B there in the last sentence.
But really, don't buy a UTG, they will not last you years, normally they don't last 1 if used heavily, whereas an upgraded CA/Maruzen can last you quite a few years with minimal replacement parts needed.

I have nothing else to say...sorry not an English major..=P Animation here.. HAHA so anyway, yeah I think i'm gonna go with a Maruzen APS 2(sniper version) through redwolf airsoft. It's a bit over my 200 dollars, so I most likely will be waiting longer than Christmas break but I think it'll be worth it. I'll most likely be using the gun standard for a bit, until I can save up for some upgrades, but hey, as a Sniper I'll need to learn to be stealthy (is that even a word?) right? so with a lower powered sniper rifle...it just means I need to get closer...great practice in stealth there. I have nothing else to say Texas, thanks for the help.

'Tis the same gun that I use. It's quite short in comparison to the other rifles, but a solid upgrading platform. That and it's not as common as the L96. Once you purchase it if you have questions, feel free to drop me a PM. I've always got something to say .

Damn awesome, thanks, very helpful. I most likely wont get it until midsummer. Since I'm going over my planned budget by a few hundred, I'm just going to put away the money I was going to spend and add to it with whatever job I get this summer. Also, since I will pretty much be buying (*and using) this gun base with a scope for a year or so, what bb's should I get, redwolf airsoft says it shoots 285 fps but fails to tell me the bbs used. Is this .2 gram? I am assuming this is.
Thanks, Infidel

Just use .2 for starters.
Then buy a PDI Hopup and a Tightbore. After that... I say put in a CA 300% kit, it's 100$ and has some decent quality items in it that will last you a long time for not a lot of $$.
The hopup/tightbore is about $100 as well, but necessary with the SV since it has a fixed hopup stock, meaning you cannot adjust it. This will force you to use very heavy, expensive bb's and just is not as accurate.

My trigger (and Mosins trigger) have gone to hell. This is another $120-$140. Then you can take that CA kit, break down, upgrade what you need to, and build up from there. Its going to take time, patience, money, and commitment. But if your a person who wants to fill the role and not just shoot fast/hard then it will be worth it just that much more.

Awesome, yeah at the moment college is kind of a pressing business, but I want to start investing in a gun that will be durable, so that in a few years, when I start gettin more into airsoft, I already have a good gun platform, and I can spend money for upgrades, not a whole new gun. And hell yeah, I want to fill the role of sniper.
Thanks all, Infidel

1sniper1, my advice to you, is to punch yourself in the face.
Start capitalizing and punctuating, along with adding actual useful information to threads or I'll just sick a moderator on you.
