Well ive seen this a lot. People coming over from paintball to airsoft because its "cheaper" we can assure you its not.
Paintballs = BBs
Co2/Nitro = Propane/Greengas
Marker = AEG/Spring Rifle
Pods/Hopper = Mags
Cost can be similar if not MORE expensive in the work of airsoft. But lets not get into that debate. Ive only participated in 2 OPs and 1 Rec Game and I did the best way you can probably go. SAVE THE MONEY.
You have a few choices. Ive made a list before it consisted of Maruzen and Classic Army for spring rifles. And KJW and Tanaka for gas rifles.
Spring is prefered over gas because gas can be effected by climate changes. Gas can be prefered because the power/accuracy can compete with spring rifles with less modification. In the rare occasion of an AEG Sniper Rifle it will be a TM PSG-1 type weapon.
Best L96 Replica would be the Maruzen L96.
Any good sniper rifle is going to run you over 500$ after upgrading and the like.
Parts you will need to upgrade:
Cylinder
Cylinder Head
Piston
Piston Head
Spring
Spring Guide
Hop-up
Inner/Tightbore Barrel
Drop in Upgrade kits are available and will get the job done but you will probably want to upgrade the parts later on. I purchased a CA Drop in kit for my Maruzen APS-2 SV, like I said Ive only used it in 2 OPs and 1 Rec game and im already looking into new parts.
The bolt and trigger will be the last 2 pieces to replace. My bolt already broke on mine which is a RARE thing to happen. The bolt will need to be replaced because all the stress mine broke after the 2 ops and 1 rec game and thats a rare thing to happen so early on. I fixed it because my dad in a machinist and skypilot gave us some tips. We drilled a hole into the bolt, threaded it, but a steel bolt into it and then epoxied the bolt in place so it wont move. The triggers sears will eventually wear out making you replace it because it will either break the sear that holds the cylinder in place while you pull the bolt back or will break the sears that holds the spring back before you press the trigger releasing the spring and firing the projectile.
Just because you have a "sniping" weapon doesnt mean your going to get more kills. It helps but its true, like the M23 Socom example, its the person behind the rifle.
Next thing you will look into is camouflage. Without a ghillie its hard to blend in, I tried the DM role but I prefer the "sniper" tactics of a ghillie suit which will break up your outline. I made a homemade ghillie suit and this took time but cost less. It cost me about 55$ for all the things purchased. A manufactured ghillie will run you about 100$-300$(150$ for pants. 150$ for jacket). This still doesnt make you invisible people will shoot at you so you better make that shot.
If this is to much for you get an Echo 1 USA rifle from the many fine retailers we have on the boards be it MOA Airsoft or Empire Airsoft. These are good beginner guns because they cost a little less but can perform to par with the more costly rifles like the TM/CA rifles out there. Once again, its the person behind the rifle rather than the weapon itself.
I am by far from a good sniper. I purchased an AEG to see if sniping was the thing I really wanted to do. Either way this sport is in no way cheap. I cost me 300+$ for the AEG that I didnt even use in an op to spend over 500$ on my sniper rifle. You must be dedicated to the sport to be a active member in this hobby and thats why this forum is here. Because all of us, or most of us, put a lot of time, money, and effort into this sport to make it what it is.
Military Simulations. And general fun.
IF You are into "woodsball" then maybe you will be interested in this hobby. If your more into "speedball" then maybe CQB/CQC warfare is the choice for you. If you are JUST entering this sport than this is good because fall/winter is coming around and there will be a few more indoor games. THIS IS ANOTHER REASON YOU MAY NOT WANT A SNIPER RIFLE. It can not always be used. In the occasion that you want to play at a CQB/CQC game you need a 50ft distance from you and the target if you are shooting hot, and if you have a sniper rifle, more than likely you are shooting hot. With sharp corners and the like you will not be able OR allowed to make said shots because that is under the engagement limit.
PLEASE READ MORE THREADS BEFORE CREATING THEM. I KNOW YOU CAN GET RESPONCES BUT A PM TO ANY OF THE "SNIPERS" ON THIS FORUM WILL GET YOU THE SAME ANSWERS.
