yes yes we all know "the n00b thinking he's a sniper" For the record I do realize what a DM (designated marksman) is and what he/she should/shouldn't be doing. I've been a DM before (borrowed Maruzen L96) but I couldn't afford a good L96 at the time. I've been looking around and I've found a few different L96 models AGM, WELL, Maruzen, UTG etc
I found one on Ebay (yes I know it's Ebay), and it notes that it is a metal body L96 450+FPS. For a spring sniper rifle it sounds about right, however at the bottom it lists it as an AEG made by AGM, can anyone confirm/deny this?
If it's a lie, what would be a good L96 model to buy? If it's true is it worth getting?
EDIT: never mind the Berrett everything I've read said it's junk

Buy a Maruzen. Save your money and buy a Maruzen. Buy a Maruzen.
Just really. Buy a Maruzen or you will just be wasting your money when the cheap one breaks.

One thing I forgot to mention: I don't have a lot of money to pour into this hobby. It's cheaper than paintball, but I can't go throwing around $200+ on one rifle that in all honesty will break just like the cheaper brands

Theres not really a "good" cheap clone out there. The UTG L96 is nice but Ive heard many horror stories of it wearing out fast. If you spent your money on something nice its not going to give out fast (if you know what your doing), and lets face it, the clones and cheaper rifles will never shoot like the quality stuff does. Airsoft sniping isn't cheap, I would suggest getting an AEG if you dont want to spend a lot of money. I also bealive UTG is the same a AGM all though im not 100% sure. But seriously if you dnot want to spend a ton of cash I would suggest a different role. Were not trying to discourage you but instead are trying to help you.
My 0.02 cents.
EDIT: What I would suggest you do is buy a AEG and turn it into a DMR. That would give you a good sniper platform. Its cheap and effective.

I have nothing else to say, a Maruzen won't break. Don't want to take my word for it? Ask any decent airsoft sniper, they'll completely agree with me.
If you don't have the money for a good long rifle, don't buy a cheap rifle, you'll regret it in the long run.

But it's better to find out if you are a sniper or would enjoy a more active role in airsoft. The cheaper way to go is good, if your just starting out and want to change in the near future. When and if you find sniping is not for you. A lot of noobs, watch TV and think the sniper role to be the same thing in arisoft. It's not while, yes a sniper can reach out there further than a stock AEG. It takes a certain person to sit there and be still for that long and not panic when over run by the enemy, but have the escape plan or the disappearing gillie or more like the skills to hold off 9-10 guy's with the back up weapon. Get an Aeg, get to some OP's find your role after three or four events. It might change more than once..
One last thing. It's better to have a gun, than have no gun. Buy what you can afford and get in the game.

I would like to think that I am considered a good marksman in airsoft, and that I am feared out on the field a little bit. But I do run around like a crazed fool, and have held off 5 guys numerous times alone. Let's face it, they just don't want to get shot by the rifle . But I don't consider myself a sniper, marksman is a much better title for me. Regardless, buying a cheap "sniper rifle" is stupid, even if to just try it out. Use an AEG, and put it on semi, and go out in the field and act like a "sniper", if you like it, buy a real long rifle, if you don't, stand up and run around and shoot people on full auto.

Get yourself a aeg, and play the 'sniper' role with it. Nothing says you can't snipe with a MP5. A good sniper can use any weapon to snipe.
Get yourself a Echo1 and try it out, try different roles and then decide.
Remember it isn't the gun that makes the player. It's the player that makes the sniper.

The UTG is a great "cheap" rifle. For there being many "horror" story's, some are made good. I have put 1000rds through my UTG MK96, and it still works fine. No i am not exaggerating, 1000rds.

Hahah, I remember at Aurora a kid walked up to me and said "Wow, ghillie suit with an MP5.. Unnessicary" and then I giggled, also. We were in the bush for a while together at that night game when I was using that MP5. On topic: Texas said it best. You can't be an effective cheap sniper, or even a cheap sniper. It's almost concidered an oxymoron in airsoft. Your bottom line best bet is to get maybe a M700 or a VSR 10 and just put upgrades into it over time. Also, get something original, we all know that in almost any airsoft related picture, there is the kid holding a UTG L96. You can tell because it just looks like it is a cheap gun and it feels like a cheap gun. Excuse my ranting, but Texas was right, just save up and buy a Maruzen or a CAM24 or something that you know you'll enjoy for many years down the road, and any sniper will agree with me that owns a Maruzen that they've enjoyed theirs for years.

I agree with SkyPilot and Tex... "True" snipers are few and far between in airsoft. I have seen very few decent snipers in my over three years of playing. Of which number less than ten.
Any weapon with decent range can be used a sniper weapon. Shit, I have seen people use a silenced Mk. 23 SOCOM from a raised position play the marksman role. I'll be damned if I haven't been able to find them...

Trust me on this I own one of them, and I think most snipers out there, that have a Maruzen will say about the same

woah now, it can be an amazing gun, its just there is an 80% chance of getting a "lemon"
i owned one a little while ago and it was AMAZING! (untill i decided to tinker around with it and broke practically every part of the firing mechanism...)
