Howdy all. Well I'm finally getting around to fixing my M24 from the last operation I went to.. Op: Whisper in the Wind, those of you who were there know how I had to keep the trigger Assembly on with a couple rubber bands I have nothing else to say.
Anyway.. I thought I would lay it out for you all because I hear its a common problem among-st the M24.
The Problem:
For some reason, probably because of the fact that the one piece barrel is aluminum. The threads that hold down the trigger Assembly stripped, twice. This happened because of three factors.
Factor 1: Heavy Spring causing pressure on the threads
Factor 2: Aluminum outer barrel
Factor 3: If you keep tightening down screws on the M24, to the point where your trying to make it as tight as possible you WILL strip the threads. remember aluminum isn't steel... I have nothing else to say
The Solution:
There are a few ways you can solve this problem.
Solution 1: Buy a new gun (not very financially sound but it works)
Solution 2: Buy a PDI outer barrel/trigger Assembly set, I believe it is steel and would be almost impossible to strip those threads. downside is that it costs as much as a new Systema PTW Max
Solution 3: Get hold of a machinist that knows how to run and program a CNC machine. Have them take the dimensions of your outer barrel and wright a CNC program to make you a steel outer barrel. (Osiris can do this however he hasn't access to a CNC machine to be able to get it made, also he hasn't written the program yet, and we don't have that much steel stock)
now the practical solution,
Solution 4: Re-drill and Re-Tap the holes that were stripped.
This is what I'm in the process of doing at the moment, if you have the same problem with your M24 outer barrel pm me and ill tell you the appropriate sizes to use.
I should be finished with it by the end of next week, ill post some pics of what I did and the finished gun. Not to mention that my PDI Hop-up just came in today and I should have my Ghillie Suit by the end of next week also.
