Here's what I'm thinking for upgrading the one in my possession:
PDI Hop-Up Chamber (Which requires an AEG inner abrrel and hop-up bucking) OK 500 FPS Cylinder set w/ spring Laylax Zero Trigger set
All in all, that stuff will run you around $350-$400.

I need a job...
Ok, well, while I'm saving for some more upgrades what would you say would be the safest spring I could put in the gun without getting anything else?

On that, I truly have no idea.

What are stock springs (FPS and name wise)? Most logical step is the next spring that is higher on the power chart. Like AEGs, a stock spring is like an M90, so next powerful on would be M100.

Thanks a lot guys, seriously, I know nothing about spring and or sniper rifles. The help is greatly appreciated. And if you think of anything else that I may find useful, please post it.

The stock FPS of an L96 is reportedly between 330-350 FPS. So, that'd be about 110 meters per second. That should help with springs.

Guessing it has near an M110 in it then. Next would be an M120, which would probably require more upgrades to help it stay together longer..

Since I have no practical experience with the Type 96, other than a brief 5 minutes running around with Blade's in Ohio, I'm really not the most qualified person to talk about this. I can, however, tell you what I've found to be true with most spring rifles.
Out of the box they all shoot the same, and coming from Japan they all have the same fps limits as your typical AEG. I would be suprised if your stock Type 96 was shooting more than 310-320fps. If Maruzen followed the same strategy as the APS program, your stock spring guide, spring, and piston setup are noticeable different than upgraded parts. With the APS series, an upgraded spring would not fit correctly in the stock piston, thereby necessitating the purchase of the upgraded piston. So, at the very least you might need to purchase the entire cylinder set when doing a spring upgrade. Again, I'm not entirely sure that's the case with the Type 96, but these companies tend to follow the same strategy from model to model.
As far as what components really need to be upgraded, I can tell you that if you don't abuse or misuse your replica there's a good chance that all you'll need to upgrade is the cylinder set. My APS2 has a high fps cylinder set and nothing else. I've put thousands of rounds (not exaggerating... thousands) through my APS and I am still using the stock trigger assembly and bolt lever. They both showing signs of wear, but look like they will stay in the game for a while yet.
Longevity is a matter of caring for your replica properly. You can use it heavily in the field and if you clean it carefully, making sure not to over-torque the screws, making sure not to tear the hop bucking, making sure not to lose the little pieces, making sure to only tear it down when it really needs it... you'll be fine.

Thanks Frostee, I'll wait and not do anything to it at the moment. What kind of cylinder set did you get and how fast is it shooting?
Thanks.

My cylinder set is CA (Classic Army). I've modified all my spring sets to shoot anywhere from 495fps to 590fps. I'm usually shooting somewhere around 530fps. My experience has shown me that there is no appreciable difference between 590fps and 520fps. Unless you're shooting .88's or have some magically accurate super barrel (haven't seen one yet) there's no need to pump up much past 500fps. Just my opinion, of course.
*Note to everyone... don't shoot .88's at anyone.

Maruzen Type 96 Upgrade GuideI wrote this last Saturday after upgrading Mandor's beast. The upgrade parts mentioned in this article were also used in Snip's Type 96, which some of you may have seen at Op: Falling Star. if anyone has experience with other upgrade parts, please email me (Email in profile) so I can add them to this guide. Feedback is appreciated.
