[glow=red,2,300]WARNING: This thread is for people whom have had first hand expierience with the Maruzen Type 96 Sniper Rifle. For those of you who have gotten into the habit of posting links to reviews of guns, don't. Remember, only people with first hand expierience.[/glow]
OK.
How does your's operate? What kind of FPS is it shooting? It seems to be sturdy, is it? I'd like to know about the good and bad of the rifle (it seems to be a bit heavy).
Any help is appreciated.

I've yet to actually shoot one, but I've had occasion to handle one.
It's big, and heavy. Feels very, very solid. It's based on the APS-2, so it's bound to be a good rifle, if you ask me.
Side note:
What is a link to a review if not a link to someone with first-hand experience with the gun? If you *only* want opinions of people with first-hand experience, then maybe you shouldn't be asking questions on the internet.

Thanks.
I just don't like when people put links up for websites when people don't ask for them. Anyone can go look for a review, just being able to ask questions and talk to someone about the gun is better, for me at least anyway.
With that said.
Anyone else with expierience? I'd like to know how fast your's is shooting and what kind of bbs etc etc.

I've got a stock one. The only mods I've made so far have been to replace the hop-up with the PDI model and a barrel spacer since the inner barrel.
The reason I've bought those two peices is omply because the hop-up liked to wander and the body is made of cheap pot metal, causing screws to strip out. The original hop-up was very easy to adjust. This is a problem because the mag-release (Which is the front wall of the mag well, incidentally) is only held in by a screw that secures itself to the hop-up unit.
I bought a barrel spacer (A pair, but only needed one) simply because the inner barrel wasn't held very tightly by the barrel cap.
In any case, the gun shoots nicely, it's very easy to cock and the bolt only has maybe 3-4 inches of travel. I like that it has a cocking indicator.
As xaos said, it's certainly big and heavy. It does have metal sling mounts for righties and lefties. The sling mounts were wobbly and noisy so I had to use some plasticard to fill up some of the useless space that caused that.
All in all, I think it's pretty cool. I'm not going to hang on to it simply because I'm not a sniper (And I'll most likely be moving into town, so no room to plink with it) but I think it's just as good as an APS2, and could certainly perform similarly.

What kind of scope do you use and which bbs do you find work best?

I've only shot Excel .25's through it (Just 1 mag, actually) and I was using a BSA 3x40mm. I wouldn't recommend that scope though, due to poor eye relief.
I may try to get my hands on some .36's and .43's, as those would be much preferable to .25's.

Ok, so I may still be getting an L96, and I was wondering, can I just drop in a Laylax APS2 SPG 210 Spring? Assuming I can, does anyone what that will bring the FPS up to?
I've been searching the web since 4 and I can't find anything about this, help is greatly appreciated.

I may be wrong, but I think Laylax names their springs by the meters per second they'll fire a BB. Thus, a 210 spring would be over 600 FPS.

Ok, so, it wouldnt be safe to put that into an otherwise stock gun correct? I saw that some parts on the L96 are reinforced but still... Would I be correct in this assumption? I want the FPS to be around 500.

Well, technically, reinforced parts aren't a necessity for any type of upgrade. However, upgrades dictate how long it is until the forces acting inside the replica utterly destroy it. If you plan on using this weapon at higher power levels for a decent amount of time, get a reinforced cylinder and metal piston, at the least. Frostee has more knowledge about this then I do.

i dont know if the L96 comes with them or not, but you would need a reinforced trigger sear, and a reinforced piston sear.

I'm fairly sure those parts are metal in the stock L96, though I don't know what they're made out of.

So I guess I'm asking Frostee? What would I need to get this to shoot 475-500 FPS?
