Hey, I'm new to MiA and airsoft in general, and I was looking at spring rifles on www.airsplat.com. The problem is, I can't decide which one I want. I think I've narrowed it down to the M16A2, the DPMS AR15, and the XM177. From what Airsplat says, they all shoot about the same, but the AR15 has more than twice the mag capacity of the other two. Does anyone have any experience with any of these rifles? Thanks for your time...

The M16a2 is quite big, so if you're short like me, I wouldn't get it. But if you do decide to get it, use .2's. Same with the XM177 but it's much more practical, not at big. But I'd say get the a-15. I had one and it friggin owned. People were afraid of me (well they still are with my UHC MP5 ;D.) So, I'd say get an A-15, an extra clip, and lots of .2's.
PS: The A-15 is like 350 fps and if you lube it (like me) it will go even further

I am short (not really, but shorter than everyone else) so I don't think I'm going to get the M16... Is there anything besides the mag capacity that makes the AR better than the XM? And would would it be worth it to buy a scope or should I save up for a real rifle? Thanks...

Save up for a real rifle.

When you say real rifle...do you mean an AEG or a sniper? Sorry, I should have clarified, I meant a sniper rifle when I said "real rifle".

Whichever you want, AEG or sniper. (note: the super 9 pro is not a real rifle)
If you're new to the sport, do the smart thing and buy an AEG first, unless you're ABSOLUTELY POSITIVE that you want to be a sniper. Sniping isn't for everyone, so it's best to purchase a gun you will use no matter what, than to have a sniper rifle that's going to be useless to you because you don't like the role of a sniper.

And it's not always a question of whether or not you like to snipe - sometimes the scenario or the field is just not set up for it. I agree with xoas, buy an AEG first.

One other thing worth noting, depending on how many people play in your area you may be stuck in "backyard" games for a while, and likely with only a few friends that will play. If you get a sniper rifle then it's not a very even match to toss a single AEG against a single sniper it will be the same thing over and over. Anyways my thoughts and also I second Munin, and xaos.

If you still want a spring rifle, you can get a Tokyo Marui XM or M16 springer for $105 shipped from projectairsoft.us. They'll perform like a stock AEG on semi, and the XM and M16 have a flip down grip to pump it like a shotgun, meaning you can fire one or two aimed shots a second no problem. Pretty nice.

Well, I have a spring USP and a HFC MP5, so I'm set for backyard games. I can get a AEG for the price of a decent sniper, and I'll waste everybody in the backyard. If I get a stock sniper rifle though, it most likely wont out-range an AEG, especially an upgraded one. But then again, thats not a problem while I'm marooned in the airsoft booneys. But it TEXTwillTEXT out preform every springer my friends can throw at me. And since I live across the street from a virtually unused gravel pit that offer numerous sniping opportunities... Thanks for all your input.

Remember what I said about getting an A-15, DON'T GET IT! IT'S MADE BY CYBERGUN!
get an aeg
and don't play at that gravel pit if it's near a bunch of houses and people, you don't want operation immediate response all over again
