Hey guys i am looking for a better spring for my Sun Project M40A1 XB. I want to upgrade it as close to 550fps as possible but i dunno what spring.. On uncompany.com theres a 250, 300, 350, and a 380 if i recall. Would the 250 be what i would need or would anyone out there know at all? Any help will be great... Thanks

You are showing all of the symptoms of "velociphilia." That is, you have become addicted to speed. A lot of your posts give the impression that you view a gun's velocity as the apex of performance. Further, I also get the sense that you feel like the extra speed is going to buy you big benefits in terms of range and accuracy. It won't. If you can't hit stuff at 450 fps, you won't be able to hit it at 550 either. While I appreciate trying to get the most "bang for your buck" out of your gun while still staying under the limits, I worry that you're obsessing a little bit. You posted a thing on airsoftplayers about being able to hit a pop-can from yadda yadda yadda. Dude, my SR-16 is only shooting like 360, and I[/b] can hit a pop can repeatedly from 15-30 yards. Hell, at 15 yards I can do it with my GBB M92FS (but that thing's freakish, I think). How long have you had that M40? A couple of months? How many games have you played with it? Did you really get to snipe in any of them? Were your opponents ever at a range where they laughed at you and mooned you while you were forced to look on powerlessly, confronted with their smiling cheeks under the cruel glare of your 8-power scope because you needed an extra 50-100 fps to reach them? I'm going to guess "probably not." Sniping is not about velocity, but rather about role. It's the shooter, not the gun that determines how effective a "sniper" is. I'm not saying that extra velocity is pointless - it certainly does help. I'm just saying that it's not the be-all and end-all of rifle performance, and it certainly isn't enough to turn you into a death-dealing badass who strikes fear into the hearts of his enemies all by itself. Lest I be accused of not actually helping you, however, RedWolf's site mentions that the 200% spring bumps the velocity from 430 fps (stock) to 470 fps. How that works I'm not entirely sure, but it's the only reference I could find. I hope you get the spring that you want and get your gun working in peak condition. But I also hope that you don't get disappointed when there isn't a corresponding massive improvement in range and accuracy with it. Good luck. But I worry about you, man. I do.

So...before picking out upgrade bits and pieces, why not find someone with a chrono and find out how fast it's *really* shooting?

Ding! Give that man a gold star!
For what it's worth, DB, the rapid drop problem may be hop-up related. Doesn't the SP M40 have a fixed hop? What weight pellets are you using?
