very legal.... not sure who you're talking to about that, Ben.

Are you positive because my dad said it is classified as a registered firearm, and for me to own a gas airsoft gun, is like owning a real gun.

Nope. same laws as paintball.
the state of Michigan does not consider airsoft firearms to be sufficiently leathal to warrent registering them as real firearms.
As a comparison, Airsoft rifles max out at around 2 joules of energy. (1.5 ftlbs) Paintball guns range from 5-8 joules. (3.5 - 5.9 ftlbs)
A .22LR bullet, one of the smallest readily available rounds will exert 189 foot pounds, (140 foot pounds)
As a comparison, a .177 caliber BB gun firing at 500 FPS, clocks in at 4.28 ftlbs, 5.8 joules.
soooo... not only is Airsoft safer than Paintball, it deals much less energy than even a modest BB gun.
I'll tell you this as well... when i first got my G3 in 2001, i took it in to the Detroit PD to ask about legality. they thought it was real at first, but after talking to the Captain for a few moments and firing it down one of their hallways, they dismissed it as 'just a toy'
sooo. i'm not worried at all about any sort of legality. i was told by(DPD and Michigan State Police) that they fall under the same laws and regulations as paintball weapons.
so if your municipality has restrictions on paintball, it might be illegal where you live... but statewide, Airsoft is perfectly legal.

NO NO NO!!! I get what he meant. Its not airsoft though is airgun pistols. I ran into that a few years back when I bought a pellet pistol. They started registering pellet gun hanguns which is dumb because most places don't care to do it and the serial numbers are identical on everyone one of the same gun. Buy law you need to get a handgun permit to buy one. But since most places don't care they don't even know of this law nor is it effective since the same numbers on the gun are probably in 5000 other peoples names. But no there is no registration involved on any airsoft gun at all period. Not yet anyways(play smart and keep it that way, so don't be irresponsible)
