I dont think its all that he wants a good skirmish gun. I think he wants something to start playing with. to learn basic gun mechanics they are helpful and you learn a lot about basic airsoft functions.

How about this, if you really just want to learn the basic mechanics of an airsoft gun you should go for either a UHC HK USP or a UHC Beretta.
Both these guns can be feild stripped pretty much like their real steel counterparts, so you'll get to learn the basics and have a lot more fun than just shooting a glock you really can't do anything else with.
You can get both of these on ebay from about $18-$25.

Check out www.tapco.com. They got good prices on springers. The Berreta is an excellent gun, especially for the price.

No offense to the Cheaperthandirt/tapco crowd, but both those places are fucking annoying. I hate getting a product from someone who knows nothing about it, unless I know so much that I don't need them barely at all. I would go with the y&p p99. Everyone has something bad to say about Y&P, but this gun is the exception. IT IS AN AWESOME GUN!.

Tapco has the best prices for the springer that I have seen elswhere. They are also a reliable company as I have bought many things from them in the past. I always got my items early. You don't have to have them tell you anthing about a 16 dollars. Note they don't sell it anymore. To bad they had really good prices. Also I bought a Leepers scope from them for about $45.00 shipping and everything around $50.00. I have since seen the exact scope for $210.00 new and $110.00 used. I also saw it at a gun show last month for $145.00 I am a REAL big fan of tapco now.
