I am a huge fan of submachine guns, mostly mp5s. During the two "big games" I've been to (both of the bastard's realsims) I have used it to great effect. I am planning on going to blacksheep at grayling(I know this is controversial given the PTSD challenge but please don't bring this up in this thread). My main question is do you all think that submachine guns can be successfully used in national events?

Sure. Once you get past a certain length, barrel length has little to do with accuracy and range. The A and SD series of MP5s can easily be turned into tack drivers if you so desire. Really, the K and PDW could, but you might want to run a longer barrel through a suppressor to do it. As for realism, SEALs have used the MP5 extensively. There's a great picture from around maybe 2006 or so with a SEAL with an SD5/6 with the bottom half of a KAC RIS zip tied to his foregrip with a VFG attached. The MP5 is a great little gun and you can carry a ton of mags in very little space. Go nuts, man.

I think SMG's are practical as long as it is nothing like an UZI or short barreled gun. MP5s can have barrels just as long as some M4s with a mock suppressor and longer inner barrel. There is no reason that just because you are not running the latest operator M4 that you can't be successful.

The pictures Knief is referring to is actually from 2009. This one is supposedly as well. Seal Future Fund also uploaded this photo fairly recently. In terms of airsoft, like others are saying, the platform is perfectly adequate for skirmishing.

You'll find that your submachine gun will have numerous advantages, notably compact size and you can easily fit almost double the magazines that a rifleman could. The light weight will be nothing to ignore either.

Knief I believe this is the picture you are referring too. I discovered this a few months back when I acquired an SD. I'm curently working on my impression. Once I get some upgrades inside it and clean it up it will be a tack driver for sure. The picture has a good reference base to work from. I hadn't seen the ones Leigonare posted till now, those are also really great finds.

Thanks for all of the responses. I will now definitely be planning on using my MP5.

That's the one, Krutch. In my head, they were in DCUs, not AOR1. I took a [bad] guess at the date.

Both squirrel and myself use SMP converted MP5s. Both of our MP5s are R-hopped, tuned and also have mock suppressors. I just tuned mine again yesterday and mine's shooting well past 200ft. They are also super quiet. Paired with their light weight, and compact size, they really are effective on the field. On SK alone, we have at least four of us that have MP5s. 2-3 of us use them pretty regularly actually.

I'd say MP5's are fine, I've never warmed up to using them despite owning 2 for ever now. For me I'm just more comfortable and faster running with an M4 based platform and mags. If the MP5 works for ya, go to it.

Gunny and I have pretty much identical MP5's. Mine just has a different suppressor. I also just got an SD upper for mine, so I can switch between the two.
edit: Also, now I need a bottom piece of KAC rail.

I should have never posted that picture. Now everybody and their mother is gunna make an impression. I don't do impressions. I've been using an MP5 exclusively for over a year because it works for me. I have been trying to figure out good rail systems for the MP5, since there isn't a ton available for G&G.
