I don't have time to read the entire bill so I read the House Fiscal Summery instead and the part that concerns me:
"That definition would be replaced by the definition referred to earlier—any weapon which will, is designed to, or may readily be converted to expel a projectile by action of an explosive."
As we've seen previously BATFE "testing" declared some airsoft guns can be "readily" converted to fire common ammunition (so a projectile by action of explosion); leaving airsoft guns open to firearms regulation by this redefinition in addition to the laws the ATF claims they are in volition of. We all know this testing was pure bu**sh*t since the airsoft rifle converted barely had any airsoft parts left in it and it would have been easier to manufacture those parts rather than use airsoft parts, but non-the-less it stands.
"Further, the bill defines the term "weapon" to include, but not be limited to, a pneumatic gun designed, manufactured, and intended to inflict death or serious bodily injury."
Im sure this has lots of good reasons to be left open, but again it also leaves the avenues open to declare airsoft guns real firearms.
We also see some special exceptions made for paintball guns, and in the same breath they could include airsoft guns but they don't. Maybe some community political presence / lobbying could change this; but as previously stated we don't really have that power here in Michigan.
You can read the summery here or the full bills here.
You can also read the BATFE memo about their "research" findings here, but you'll need a PDF reader installed. I don't have a link to the actual research anymore.
