I suddenly realized today while at the Realsim that I want my M4 to be an M16. Mostly because I'm tired of using tiny LiPo batteries and fiddling with the thing to get them in. I just want to get a huge 5000 mAh LiPo and have it in, knowing I can go for days without having to mess with it. Not that I would...
So, what does switching that out entail? I've worked on both types of stocks, but I haven't looked at it from the mentality of switching one to the other. I also have no idea what a good choice would be in terms of manufacturer.

Depending on what the base gun is, it should be pretty straight forward.
For a lot of full stocks, you need a special buffer that looks like half of what usually goes on it, as the bottom of the back of the receiver feeds into the stock. Then the appropriate length mounting screw.
But really, unless it's ICS or something special, it's pretty straight forward, especially if you are buying a new full stock kit.

I switched my G&G Crane stock out for a JG full stock, didn't need any extra parts or anything, and it hasn't broken yet even though it has taken a few beatings. A JG stock is $20-$30 online depeding were you look.

Thanks guys So what's good in terms of quality? I was thinking VFC because I admire their externals.
For reference, my gun is mostly custom but the externals were built by Lonex as one of Airsoft G.I.'s Next-Gen. FMG4 line.

I got a G&G full stock for that reason (bigger lipos) and it is made of a very nice durable polymer and has a huge battery space. It comes with a mounting screw and little to no modification is needed (usually). This is where I got mine. I've owned some 12 full stocks over the years (8 at one time) I can't stand JG stocks but anything over that has really turned out fine for me.
You should be aware that there are 2 kinds of full stocks, short screws and long screw ones, I'm personally a fan of short screw ones but the above mentioned receiver problems arise with short screw ones. Also if possible make sure you purchase the stock spacer along with your full stock. I haven't had much trouble with short screw ones missing the stock spacer but long screw ones will begin to bend upward if you tighten them without a stock spacer.
There's also metal buttplates and plastic buttplates, personally I prefer plastic much lighter and I'm not using the gun like a baseball bat.

Thanks Bishop (Task-Force Nightmare), that its probably what I will end up getting because I like Amazon and G&G. +1 for the link You should be aware that there are 2 kinds of full stocks, short screws and long screw ones, I'm personally a fan of short screw ones but the above mentioned receiver problems arise with short screw ones. It looks to me like that G&G stock has a long screw. What kind of spacer am I looking for? Is it the ring-shaped thing? Also, my gun uses the castlenut-style mounting method for the buffer tube rather than a screw down the middle. Doesn't this mean I have a problem, since there would be no place for the mounting screw to go?

But yes if you do not have a place for the screw to go you have a problem. I was talking about this kinda spacer www.airsoftatlanta.com/Guarder-Steel-Stock-Ring-for-Full-Stock-M16-p/34530.htm if possible make sure the stock you're buying has it, it's an annoying little piece to bother 8 bucks on.

It should work if your spring guide is threaded and the screw can reach the spring guide to attach.

Yes, I have a Lonex FMG4. I will check to see if the spring guide is threaded.

I have the G&P Modular Sniper Stock and it fits a 5000mah 7.4v just fine. It comes with everything you need to install it. Some of them you have to buy the spacer separately. www.evike.com/products/28738/

Sent from my SCH-I535 using proboards Ehhhh, I don't really know how that'd work when the stock has nothing to latch onto and keep it from rotating. And the stock spacer would also have nothing to rest on. Maybe with a short screw stock it might not wiggle too much? But even in the best case I'd expect some annoying rotation.

Can you give pictures of the reciever without the buffer tube attached just to see what you're working with?
