I think it depends on the article of clothing in question. I wear my 5.11 boots all the time. My camo, not so much.

I won't wear camo. To me it just sticks out in a crowd (might not be a big deal for most but as a 6 foot white male living in what is basically Mexico, I need all the help I can get) However, If I do wear any mil-spec clothing it would be just the simple colors (black, tan, OD, etc) as a jacket and of course I have my Merrells. If I'm feeling extra tacti cool then I'll thow on some khaki pants. To me it just seems like it makes you a target and some people will either be watching you more, feel uncomfortable or feel the need to start a conversation with you (Not that I am anti social or anthying, I just would rather avoid questions). I do however wear a black Triple Aught Design Ranger Hoodie with velcro when it's cooler out. I love the feel and fit. Looks good and won't stick out even with patches on the arms. Not a cheap jacket however. I bought mine for around $300 last year I guess that's my two cents..
