I see the word thrown around with kits and different guns occasionally, and for the life of me, I can't find a solid definition. What I've gathered is that it has something to do with reconnaissance, and badass South African mercs pop up a lot. Can anyone shed a little more light on this.

Reconnaissance pretty much sums it up. It is a OP or mission in which you do not expect direct contact with the enemy. Ex. Op: Red Wings (Lone Survivor).

Which would make "Recce rifles" weapons suitable for a reconnaissance style mission. Makes sense. Thanks Legionnaire.

I figured I would ask this here, since its on this topic. What's the proper pronunciation? My self and a buddy got into a disagreement. Is is "Reece" like the candy, or wreckie, like wreck-e?

Google search has taught me: Wreckie or Recky, rhymes with Becky.

Gotta love Airsoft and our crazy ass acronyms. We could just as easily say Recon inside.

The term does not originate from airsoft.
