Finally got the time to write up a decent AAR so here it goes. I'm not going to focus on what needs to be done to the field, Gimp already hit that nail on the head.
First I would like to thank Canto and the HITW Paintball staff for putting on such a fun event, they never disappoint me.
CAMPING
Thanks for offering camping, for guys like me who come 5 hours away to play, it saves us a lot of hassle either trying to drive too and from the event in the same day. I also love being able to camp because I think it helps re enforce the community feel that we should have as airsofters. I wish more event hosts would offer this, for places that are 3 plus hours away, that's about the only way I would attend. The last event I went to that offered post event camping other than Canto's games was when Immortal hosted Dark Shore's in Saint Charles.
Boiling water over the campfire is apparently too complicated for me to figure out without burning the pan, for now on I'm brining a microwave
THE GAMEPLAY
The gameplay was solid and was a challenge. Each team seemed to be at the same skill level, I think Tan might have slightly outnumbered green but I'm not exactly sure. From the command viewpoint, green was getting there asses handed to them for about an hour until we finally started pushing back. Once we got the momentum going we kept pushing and kept the pressure up. It would have been nice to have Deadwood open from the start. Tan started off with a huge geographical advantage as they had easy access to the village and green had no easy way to bypass it in order to take J11 in heartbreak ridge. It took a diversionary attack on the far west of the field, along with concentrated, constant attack on the village from The Bastards (and the sexy PKM of Tim's ), in order to get players past it in to capture our objective, and even then, it was only I and one other dude who made it through. We were able to capture that objective but weren't able to hold it for the required amount of time, but it was a blast trying to push past it and awesome when the fruits of our labor finally payed off.
The second half of the game we made more progress. I was informed that Tan's objective was to take the village, knowing that we wouldn't be able to push into there base and retrieve the Javelin case in Tan's FOB, we worked on prying the village from there hands. It took awhile but it was done. Green was just starting to make headway up the southern ridge when the game was finally called. Considering we started getting our asses kicked, and ended in a stalemate, I would say green played amazingly well. Not winning and forcing a stalemate is still better tactically than losing. Kudos to both teams for putting up one hell of a fight.
THE PLAYERS
Almost all the players, outside the dude who was bullet hosing with the Polarstar, displayed excellent sportsmanship. I saw some familiar faces like Gimp, Mosin, Marshy, and Sandman. Meeting the Legendary Noah Timm isn't an experience I'm going to forget anytime soon. Still feel embarrassed for getting Mosin and Marshy mixed up by the bonfire, but It was dark and Mosin was missing his opr8t0r beard from Blacksheep so that was an honest mistake.
Overall great game and I'm glad I had the opportunity to attend.
My only Con's outside of what Gimp previously stated was the weather.... Do some voodoo magic to control that stuff.
